The people I feel worst for re: the Animal Crossing save fiasco are those who have multiple accounts on one system, families with a single Switch, etc. They get one town and one town only evidently because of this policy. Hopefully each town can at least allow multiple users to take up residence in it, but that presents a whole host of other problems in terms of which user controls the town, who has full vs partial access, or whether those options will even exist or not.

Switch is supposed to be Nintendo's opportunity at proving they're not so anachronistic and out of touch when it comes to common sense, user friendly, industry standard functionality. Between this, the recent preorder refund issue, voice chat requiring a phone app, Nintendo Online (while very affordable and that offsets it slightly) being extremely feature-light, the way Pokemon Home will evidently work, etc. I don't think it's unreasonable to say: I love Switch and it's my default console now, but get it together Nintendo lol. Don't squander all the good will Switch has earned you.

Oh well, here's hoping next week brings the Direct! And W101 is nearly at 1.5 mil lol.

Regarding the whole Animal Crossing thing, it's once again something I can't really be bothered to get upset about. I think the DS and 3DS was the only time Animal Crossing games didn't have some kind of issue. On the Gamecube they took up basically an entire memory card (57 out of 59 blocks), so if you wanted more than one town (or just had more than one game) you needed to shell out an additional... I think $30 at the time for another card. On the Wii, since it used online functions the save couldn't be copied at all.

And if you want to really focus on the "multiple towns for multiple users" thing, since the DS and 3DS games saved to the game card, you could only have one town at a time unless you bought the game more than once.

Like, I can see how it would bother people, but... I don't know, maybe I just find it difficult to get angry or upset about games in general these days.

Oh my. This could put a massive halt to global consumerism if enough of the population are decimated by this viral outbreak. Billions of people around the world could lose their jobs. This is definitely not a light thing to brush off.

I'm not particularly upset about it either (let alone angry.) But I understand why others are.

And I do absolutely think a reasonable expectation of more than one user of a physical copy of a game being able to experience that game with their own save file (in this case, town/island) and of fairly industry standard features like retrievable cloud saves, on a platform which has demonstrated it can provide cloud saves, particularly when we're paying for Online, is a pretty rational expectation to hold as a consumer in 2020.

And I do believe that voicing frustration with those expectations not being met is absolutely within a consumer's rights and, just as importantly if not more so, in their interests. Past precedence or norms don't excuse it. This is 2020 and Nintendo has demonstrated they can do better when they choose to.

Imagine buying a physical copy of, say, Stardew Valley, and being told if someone else who has an account on your system wants their own village they have to buy another console. I can guarantee you far fewer people would have bought Stardew Valley were that the case. But because it's Nintendo and Animal Crossing we all just kind of shrug and go along with it.

That's the tragic irony of it; Nintendo's software is just that good, that we will all overlook these things when they don't give us alternatives (I include myself in that, I can't be too upset if I'm buying the game lol) because they're just literally that good at making games. Imagine how unassailable and unstoppable they'd be if consumer-friendliness was a rule they always followed too, though.

They're adding flaws to a diamond that could be perfect for no good reason imo. In the hyper-consumer-conscious world we live in now (even if people do take it to extremes, which I disagree with,) that only hurts them. Again, for no good reason. Same with the lack of voice chat, the lack of other industry standard features, the preorder refund fiasco, etc. etc.

And we've seen them go through these learning pains so many times and then change course. We know they can do better when they choose to. But they seemingly refuse, stubbornly, to adopt industry norms and meet perfectly reasonable consumer expectations, again and again. Just because they can and they know it.

And so, if I'm a family with multiple people on one Switch (I'm not thankfully, that's another reason I let it slide, because I'm a solitary gamer) and multiple people in that family love Animal Crossing and it's 2020 and we have those perfectly reasonable expectations and we're planning on buying it... yes, I'm going to be a little upset with Nintendo right now because I don't want to literally buy another Switch (or more) just for others to have their own saves/towns/islands.

I think that's perfectly reasonable. And I think anyone arguing it isn't, or denying it's an issue, is willfully choosing convenience over fellow consumers. Bottom line: Nintendo is my favorite video game company of all time and I love virtually everything they so much as breathe on lol. I'm literally a Nintendo fanboy. But they can and should do better imo when it comes to these sorts of totally unnecessary issues that increase the number of hoops customers have to jump through to get to what they really want... the games Nintendo excels at making and publishing.

Really? Because I just checked Amazon and it still lists the Switch version of Mega Man Zero/ZX Collection for February 25th.

They told me it's shipping date had move back into March, which could just mean that my copy will not be shipped until after March 1st for whatever reason.

Question for something that just dawned on me. I keep the Joycons attached to the side of the Switch when I'm not playing it. Am I overcharging the batteries? I ask because I've haven't touched the thing in a month and wonder if I should remove the controllers or not.

I do the same and so far haven't had any issues with them not working or feeling warm to the touch.

My son has had them since release date, and 99% of the time, they are docked. There is probably a hardware/software power control that prevents the Switch from overcharging the attached Joycons, along with power management to the rest of the system (which would be draining the main battery into the Joycons, if that were the case).

I wouldn't worry about it. Had mine since launch and I almost never remove the joy-cons and I've had no problems.

Modern lithium ion batteries have circuitry in them to prevent overcharging and to prevent them from being completely drained. Both of those events can cause serious issues, up to and including explosion. It was more the older "dumb" nickel cadmium rechargeable batteries that you had to worry about.

    Nintendo of America on Twitter

They're really drip feeding every last possible morsel of info that isn't Direct-worthy on Twitter before they finally announce a Direct. They know exactly what they're doing to us at this point don't they? They enjoy inflicting this on us don't they? :lol

At this rate I won't be surprised if they wait until March just to thwart and discredit leakers, given that above Pokemon leaker video lol. Honestly I can't really blame them. But the wait is brutal :lol

What action games are worth getting on Switch? Mine has been sorely underused in the last six months. I got over Smash, and finished Mario Odyssey.

I'm getting BOTW for my birthday next week but would also like to add to the stable.
