Agreed but the Angels in Eva are the “Angels” of the Old Testament doing the kind of shit angels would do in the end times so it’s at least a little more than that. I realize it’s all some depression psychodrama.
No fuckin way. I was ranking about 3Zero evangelions a week ago. What teh fuk this is great. Shame it’s the rebuild design and not the original. Unit-01 is pretty insignificantly different but Unit-02 and 00 are pretty different and I prefer the old ones.
ThreeZero are making some Eva units. This is very cool. They’re rebuild Eva units. Kinda not as cool. But ThreeZero make good toys. So I’m not ungrateful.
So this thought keeps bugging me. But does anyone else know why they haven’t made Eva designs based off the old show? Like popularity of course but I just don’t see any. Makes me think there’s some licensing issue.
Quite possibly. The division between Gainax and Khara was/is pretty damned messy, as was covered in the Anime thread a little bit ago. Kotobukiya did release some of their model kits in TV colours, but those were secondary to the movie colours.
Yeah that recent info made me think it was something like that. It does make me glad that Anno did remake Eva at least. Cause then we may not get figures ever. The model kits seem to have done most other designs. I just see these ThreeZero ones and I think, damn I’d love if they did the Eva Series.
Yeah that’s another big thing to me. I don’t like how the orange one just went to yellow. Feels a lot less contrasting and doesn’t share the parallels to Unit-02 that is included in the comparison of the pilots. The designs just have the right amount of interesting context that makes me like them more. And upon doing research the Gainax situation absolutely has to do with this. I’m unaware if Anno actually owns the original show’s material but the rebuilds were at least made as a counter measure to make sure he had his own versions that he could put to good use. Or rather make money to pay people.
Hi! I watched Evangelion last year and wanted to get an Eva-01 Figure but I'm kinda cheap, Recently I saw an HG Eva-01 for $40 CAD (around $30 USD) at my local comic shop. Is this a good figure? Is it worth the price? (Hobby Search lists it at 20 USD) And does it look good without paint? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
The HG Evangelion kits are very old. The tooling's been refreshed relatively recently, but the engineering is still essentially from the 90s, and it'll show. You'll probably want something more modern. Bandai launches a Real Grade version later this year, and Kotobukiya's version is due for a re-release soon. ~$35 and ~$40 USD respectively.
