I noticed a few posts here stating they transformed Hound up to 30 times already. Is it really fair to expect such stresses imposed on the product will not result to busting it? Exemption of course on those coming out broken from MISB and those that broke after being left alone in display.

you are trying to say transformers now have a limited number of cycles (under 30) before we should expect them to fall apart?

For example, even titanium constructed planes wear out. What more ABS/PVC plastics. In Hound's case, weirdly prepared plastics.

ok, i sent back two defective copies today. in addition to the usps instructions that a couple others were kind enough to document, here is what i encountered that had a little smh moment~

ignore the customs paperwork provided by amazon. when you’re at the usps office, do NOT fill out the smaller white customs form, as that does not include insurance nor tracking. i was initially told to fill that out, then during checkout when i requested for insurance/tracking, they said the only way for that is through express mail, which has its own larger customs form to fill out. that’ll also become the shipping label that’s attached to the package, so don’t even bother writing the to/from addresses on the package itself. all in all, i ended up unnecessarily writing out the shipping address 3 times.

express mail includes $200 insurance, so i had to pay a little more for $260 worth for both figures. my total cost for two figures was $85 from california, as a reference point.

hope this helps, and good luck!

I got mine in from BBTS and I got it all Transformed with no issues, and then I turned it around and there is a huge crack going down the rotating hinge behind the head.

It sucks, but I’m not sure if I’ll return it, I’m guessing the crack only releases the pressure and won’t get any worse?

Also the main head that was on the figure had mold flashing along his mouth, so that one is bad.

I think I’m just about done with Takara...this is my 3rd mp in a row with some kind of QC issue. I can’t go in on a set of V2 seekers knowing their QC is this bad.

Got all my money refunded from Amazon.jp now. Had to contact them a 2nd time to get a full refund on the return postage (initially they just added 2000 Yen which is £14 when the postage was £25) but they just made up the difference now.

I'd much rather support a smaller business than Amazon but while these QC issues plague masterpiece releases Amazon's return policy is too good to ignore.

Wow, my shoulder rocket launcher fell off the hinge without any pressure. Insane. I'm debating returning it to amazon.jp because I don't think I could mentally bring myself to transform another one of these knowing the carnage it causes.

After having Hound out (and as a robot) for a month, the other night I tried to change him back to alt mode. I haven't seen any cracks or other damage yet. BUT I couldn't change him back to alt-mode, and as...fragile as it seems he could be, I'm not going to try again. So this last experience with the figure before packing leaves a bad taste in the figurative mouth.

My final thoughts (because, as flawed as this is, it does tick off my 'Hound' box for good) are:

The packaging is good. It's probably a good thing that MP-47's box appears the same as MP-10's. I would prefer a move to something more like the original (1984) North American packaging style with more emphasis on the breathtaking commissioned artwork and figures packed in 'bot mode, but that isn't gonna happen. As-is, I'm pretty non-plussed about alt-mode packing (which I am afraid to get back to) - which means packing away Hound will take up twice as much room, and the whole instruction sheet shit-show. TT's MP instructions aren't worth the paper they're printed on, but I KNEW this was going to be a troubled release when I pulled out a supplement to the instructions (What the hell??).

Accessories are....there to justify the price, mostly. Actually, it's half and half. What are the extra mirrors for? They don't appear any different than the installed ones. "We know this shit gon' break, so here's some extra." I love the Spike figure - I want MORE! The soft-top? Bizarre. Will never be removed from blister again.

The aesthetics and articulation on the 'bot are excellent. Besides some huge gaps in feet and wrong-shaped oversized missile launcher, he's spot on. I don't even care about the floating neck/armature. I wish T-T would take a small step back with the lack of alt-mode paint detailing, but...that ain't going to happen.

The transformation to robot mode didn't seem bad at the time. Nerve-wracking? Yes, but I did it in one sitting and there was one "A-ha! Clever!" moment (in the legs, I think). I can't convert back to Jeep, even with a video, so I'd have to give the transformation a negative mark, if anyone asked (Yes, I'm aware that no one did).

The alt-mode is completely acceptable, with the usual compromises that have to be made.

The price, even with pre-order was ludicrous. To boot, it appears that quality control is taking a nosedive, despite my lucking out.
This is probably the last official "G1" MP I will buy, and if the prices keep rising, maybe the last T-T Masterpiece figure I ever buy.

I don't mind paying premium price for a premium product but this isn't it. I'm not even talking about the breakages from the materials. Just the paint the is globbed on and chipping, the accessories that (IMO) no one really wants very much. Meh...just not worth what they're asking for it. The whole toon vs less toon thing aside, I miss the old ones like the Datsuns where you could slam them around if you so chose and they held together and the paint was super smooth and didn't chip. Something changed somewhere and not for the better.

Really agree here, especially the accessories. All those accessories and they left out Hound's toy gun. Cause just like Sunstreaker's missile hand, future repaint buy.

I hate them leaving out accessories like that just for the sake of a later repaint.

My Hound is at Home finally (buyed from Amazon Japan, but paid only €106 because there was one of my wife's best friends there for a journey, she has a sister that lives in Tokyo), I have checked and transformed and I think I am lucky, no issues or cracks, even because I did it with caution. I have just to figure out and solve the feet transformation, the panels aren't not well placed I think.
    My serial number is:K1219.
Just a thing is making me curious: did you find this paper with the instructions sheet?

I use all the accessories and the paint on my copy’s at least as good or better as my Hasui MPs from “the good ol days.” I’m sure I’d be less hot on this guy if I got a crumbly copy, returned it, and got sent another crumbly copy but mine’s still crack free after nearly ten transformations and tons of posing. No oiling any joints and I’m not any more careful changing him than than any other MP. Wish everyone got a good copy!

I will have to agree with some of the comments here...while I LOVE the toon thing...I will agree that the old Hasui bots were better built that the current batch. By current batch I mean any new mold post mp-36. Yes, even mp-39 as good as it was had some hardware issues like the excessive play in the hip ratchets and some issues with the windscreen. Every single release of new mold since then has had some pretty significant QC problems:
    Mp-39 (see above)
    Mp-41 (exploding shoulder ratchets)
Mp-43 (loose waist and crotch breakages)
Mp-44 (exploding knees and excessive play in hip ratchets)
Mp-45 (very loose waist/hips, messy, globby paint apps)
Mp-46 (very good overall, but really shitty tolerances on spider legs)
    Mp-47 (well...you know)
The materials that they are using now feel cheap as shit to me. while the figures looks absolutely incredible, the way that these things are built is basically inexcusable for what is being asked by TT. Hasui era bots were cheaper (like a lot cheaper) and were very, very durable...and while I am not crazy about the toon/toy/real world mix, them toys were the tits.

Do you all know about translation apps? I got Google translate for my phone and it changed my world. You point your phone at the instructions, and your screen shows the translations of the image! It's so rad :)

They are trying to turn the line into Hot Toys for Transformers except that Hot Toys does a much better job at delivering quality toys with presentation and value and their figures generally hold their values much better than TT MP line. I think the whole toon thing plus increasing articulation made the figures so much more complex that things are bound to break much more easily.
