idk I was guessing and was wrong. The first Botcon I remember vividly was 2009 and the aftereffects of 06-08.

For a complete run-down of BotCon exclusives, may I suggest this site I've been maintaining for years?

That’s the funpub one I mentioned
The bm one was botcon and the universe one was otfcc

I was close, didn’t realize 94 was g2 breakdown, but all others until 2001 were original non hasbro created characters

BotCon '94 G2 Breakdown was a special case. Hasbro didn't make those specifically for the convention, but offered them to the convention organizers as "something special." It was only after BotCon became a continuing concern that arrangements started to be specifically made for exclusives, and that Hasbro imposed rules against previously-established characters (for a while).

If there's no official toys or comics, then what's the point? TFCon, TF Nation, Roll Out Roll Call, etc. are all doing what this is going to do and are likely going to do it better with less drama or hardships.

No, BotCon wasn't always about the exclusive toys and fiction but it's exactly what set it apart from other conventions at the time. TFCon used to be the Canadian convention, now there's an American one to fill the void that BotCon left. If this isn't an official TF convention, who cares?

Speaking only for myself, I think there's still plenty of room for more TF conventions. Most of the ones you mention don't even serve the same parts of the world as each other, let alone the same region. Having more conventions in different regions gives everyone a chance to enjoy one, even if NONE of them are official.

This is confirmation that as of now there isn’t an official toy agreement with Hasbro and BotCon then?

I'm not sure, in the age of TFCon and other unofficial conventions, why we need another unofficial convention trying to be the one true convention. I think that's a bit silly. If it was official, I'd understand it better. This feels a bit like the "true fans" convention to me at this point. Maybe the name is everything, but after it failed in 2016 I think the name might be tarnished, and fairly so.

In the end, what BotCon had become was not at all what it was. It will be very hard, if not impossible to go back. I do not like at all hearing that anyone from the Fun Pub days is involved in any capacity. The one thing I can say for sure is that this fandom deserves to be treated with respect. If the serious and frequent ethical mistakes are not a thing of the past, I (and hopefully many others) will be very loud in opposition to this. There are definitely people who to this day do not own up to being part of serious lapses in judgement. That's a problem.

    We will see in time.

Before TFCon and other unofficial conventions, there was BotCon. So in essence, yes, it is the one true convention because it did what none of the other ones could do and get Hasbro to back them by allowing them to make exclusives and eventually making them the official Transformers Convention. Whether this new iteration will be or not remains to be seen, but even if it isn't it still has the distinction of being the first true full Transformers Convention ever. It has absolutely nothing to do with "True Fans" and anytime I hear that phrase I think of the "Ackchyually" meme because that is really all that phrase is.

Please explain to us how Hasbro pulling the license from FunPub by not allowing them to renew it, because they wanted to run their own "Hasbro All-in-One" Convention is failure?

Does that include Karl Hartman, one of the original founders of BotCon, because he worked with FunPub during their run in some capacity? You are correct when you say "what BotCon had become was not at all what it was" but that's what happens when a convention gets too corporate I suppose. So now that one of the original founders are back at the wheel, you're going to automatically show negativity after basically saying that it was better before FunPub took it over?

No one is denying the fact that this fandom deserves to be treated with respect, all fandoms do but sadly it's the fans that tear it down more than anyone else. Why is it being assumed that this BotCon will be exactly like the BotCons of the past? Maybe they have a new direction... maybe they have new ideas... maybe, oh I don't know, it's being transformed! (Yep, I had to throw that in, deal with it...) For a fandom that accepts alien beings that change, we have a seriously hard time accepting that other things can change too.

I, personally and thankfully, never had any of the same issues that some experienced with BotCon's of the past (I've been to 13 of the 22) that are bringing up all these bad feelings so I really can't relate to all the negativity over the mere mention of the name. I, for one, was profoundly saddened when they announced that 2016 was going to be the last one, so I am overjoyed that it will be coming back in some capacity. What that capacity is we have yet to see, and I am sure when that info is ready to be shared it will be.
