I am often inspired by what others have done in this section. Since I dabble in customs here and there I’ll just be compiling my works in this thread.

First is a Junkion set I started. Others have created cool Junkion combiners so I gave it a try. First, I painted some combiner wars bike bodies. One being a KO. These were painted into Junkyard and Scrapheap. I painted a ReCycle head too. I painted a Detritus from colors I mixed with acrylics. The unnamed core bot is a hodgepodge of KO hotspot, Onslaught, and POTP inferno.

Nice work! On the topic of the unnamed core bot, I think Hodgepodge would be an excellent name for him.
If you wanted to have some junkion spelling with it, it could be Hoj-Poj or something along the lines of that

I saw a bot along these lines on reddit last year. It started me thinking of doing something along these lines using Wrek-Gar with some repro lables. Also heavy repaints of Motormaster as the body, three bike combiners as the other limbs, and lots of bits from shapeway. Steam Shield has a number of heads to play with.

I’m not sure if it’s best I keep editing the first post..let me know :)

I really liked Unique Toys Soundmixer and with Earthrise being so accurate to G1 I wanted the figure to fit in right beside them. I mixed some Model Master Acrylics to recolor nearly the entire figure. His shins are nearly all matte gray and the body is red/orange and no longer cherry red. The crotch skirt was the only piece I decided to leave be. I couldn’t make out how to color it because the hips already have the gray area with red marks.

It took me hours to hand paint him, but with some patience he came out better than I expected.

Here is a stealth mode hotrod I’m working on inspired by the Cyberverse toy. But the eBay seller I got it from lost the head, so I’m missing that. Anybody got a loose one? Or junker..lol

I’m debating painting the top..the red looks ok still. His chest/hood also requires red but I haven’t decided on how to tackle that either. I dropped the ball on learning how to make my own decals (esp for my unfinished Sideswipe reprints) so I may need to do that now.

Finished Primes paint...from Hasbro not doing it. Just used a testors acrylic dark blue and painted the entire leg to even out the colors. Then finished his silver accents and crotch.

I also spent a a few weeks painting the OS KO POTP Grimlock to match the MP deco. Testors enamel gold worked good here, I clear coated it with clear acrylic. I actually had MP Grimlock and I sold him because this guy did the job to fill that spot.

I’ve started on a Predators set. These two are a work in progress. Stalker, I plan to order the missle from shapeways. For SkyQuake I’m still sorting out final paint details and what to do with his wings. I also keep going back and forth on his chest, most paint the center with a lime green. Plus I do want thrusters on the wings(I’m using a pair from Silver Bolt) but I’m thinking I’ll need to use styrene to do so. Ideas welcome!

Update: I finished some of the face detail. Still need to work on the eyes a bit. The copper areas have an enamel clear coat that caused some orange peel look..I may need to polish.

You do some very nice and clean painting. All of these customs have turned out wonderfully. I'm subscribing to this thread.

As to your question - I think styrene is probably a safe bet. What kind of tools were you planning to use with shaping it?

Thanks, I hand painted these guys even though I bought an airbrush to speed up my work. I have a cutting machine so I’ll probably try to create cutouts for the thrusters. I never used styrene before but I’ll experiment with paper.

Working on bodies for Snare and Talon. SkyQuake isn’t done because I ordered some model kit macros thrusters to bond onto the wings. I figured it would look way better than any Styrene attempt by me. 2nd choice was a model kit SR71 but I like those jetfire toy boosters. Machine wars starscream parts was my preference but I think it’s too big.

I’m going to attempt to reshell a bot into Falcon. I’m guessing the one guy who did do that fabricated it, but I’m looking at model kits to use. If anyone knows the accurate model scale of combiner wars jets, I’d appreciate it. I think they may be 1/144 or something.

Snare has been a bit of a challenge. I didn’t have a fresh skydive body...the one I had was part of another gentleman’s custom so removing the paint left a ton of paint dust and I almost ruined the figure in lacquer thinner(began melting the plastic) but I salvaged him. I restored the color to his black plastic in many areas. His color of rose red was tricky to mix. I have changed his combiner peg because Ariel’s Snare head was meant for Firefly and the head stalk is large. I found out there are tooling variations between combiner joints and I had to cut away at parts to get the fit right, but it worked.

Both Snare and Talon will get finishing coats of paint soon.

Snare is just about done, I gave him some more coats of paint. Finished the wings and completed his combiner joint swap. Moving on to the purple guy soon while I wait for more Shapeways parts. I get some equipment to finish SQ wing thrusters tomorrow...looking forward to it! One thing I’ve realized I need to learn to do is print and apply water slide decals..these later wave characters have such interesting decos.

Made more progress with SQ, I ended up reversing the original wings and cutting away the areas no longer needed. I also used some pieces from a macros kit to add to them. I do have a thruster(from the macross kit) that can sit on his rear because he has that post near the back, but I’m still assembling it. Nearly done finalizing color choices on him. Just going to clean up some edges and finish the eyes. I’m debating redoing his hands. They are supposed to be the same color as his forearms.

I also made first use of the airbrushes I bought so they will save me time. Also it’s in another league in regards to the even application of paint. I worked a lot on my hand brushing but I’m switching to airbrush.

Incase you noticed, the green is shimmering because I added metallic medium to the paint(velejo). I didn’t realize it would de gloss the mix but I continued anyway. To get a more metallic/gloss look..I think I will add more clear to the mix next time.

update: Finished Skydives body, just waiting on the head to arrive this week. Airbrush saved me time on the body and applied the paint great from get go. I won’t have to do follow up coats. I do want trapezoidal wings(movie starscream). I’ll have to figure that out.

Falcon is next, I’m thinking of simply using Firefly since all these guys are riffs on the originals. If a run across a model kit..I’ll give it some thought.
