Our first look at completion of devastator will always be blocked by something German.

It's going to be a long wait for the next few months until the last 2 get released. :)

Forgive me if this has already been addressed. I'm watching RoTF and just noticed that the constructicons are in 2 places at once. How can they be combined as Devestator climbing the pyramid, and fighting the Autobots in the ruins!?

The constructicons in the Michael Bay movies are drones. There's multiple of each of them.

And the components of Devastator don't have bot modes. He's a Septuplecon (like a Duocon, but with seven).

IIRC, if you treat him that way, then there's actually something like 9 or 10 vehicles that roll up during his combination sequence.

True, but I was just going by what is being released in the Studio Series line.
As alt modes go,this actually makes the old Supreme version more screen accurate.

I always just chalked it up to incompetent filmmaking and terrible editing. Did they ever go on record explaining what's up with Devastator?

I figured it was just like repaints in the cartoon. The seekers, Prowl cars, Sideswipe and Red Alert, cassette bots, cassette birds...

This is one of those things where it’s probably not what any of the writers intended, but the production and editing were such a mess, the drone or duplicate explanation becomes the only way to explain what we saw, so it’s canon now. It’s lame, but it works.

I get pretty excited explaining to friends what a mess that movie is, and what an amazing feat of deduction, creative compromise, and artistic engineering it is to make these Studio Series toys based on it. The whole thing is almost as funny as it is impressive.

My understanding is that there was a writers strike at the time so Bay wrote or re-wrote the film himself. He also hacks up his movies pretty badly in the editing room because he goes for what looks cool, not what makes sense. Shoot for the edit is his tag line I believe. So yes, anything to do with the contructicons doesn’t make sense at all because of all that. I just go with it.

Side note: I was watching Bad Boys 2 again last night and it’s interesting how many shots in the Ferrari car chase look similar to the highway shots in the Transformers movies. For obvious reasons. Bay is very good at blowing stuff up.
