Hasbro seige Shockwave still turns into a pretty nice laser gun. Somehow I missed G1 megatron entirely back then and I grew up with g2 megatron which was a purple and green tank.
I received G1 Megatron for Christmas in ‘84, so his gun alt mode really brings back those childhood memories. I have most of the Megatrons that turn into a gun, there aren’t a lot of them, but still enough to make a decent sized collection. I doubt we’ll ever see a mainline release that converts into a gun again, and that’s ok with me since I think there are plenty of great versions that already do, including the excellent MP-36+, which I think is the definitive update of G1 Megatron.
We could just not be doing it because guns are and always have been a stupid alt mode? Except Shockwave, he’s good because he’s actually a cool space gun. Or I guess we should make guns because THE EEEEEIIIIIGGGGHHHHTTIIIIIEEEES
Of course you can’t go wrong with Shockwave. I have, at last count, 87 different versions of Shockwave. Not including duplicates.
MP29 (2016) / MP29+ (2018) is the last Shockwave with an official gun mode and trigger. We have the MP29+ version, and it's excellent.
Can we please leave the gun modes in the eighties? I never have understood, or liked them. Especially for Megatron, it's kind of a stupid alt mode. I would think he'd want to turn into a giant tank so he can smash his enemies beneath his treads.
I don’t think you have anything to worry about. I seriously doubt we will ever see a gun alt mode Megatron again in any of the main lines. Pretty sure he’ll be a tank from here on out as evidenced by the plethora of tank Megatrons released over the last several years.
They just made a Megatron gun at Legends scale a few years ago, and re-issued the Classics Megatron Nerf gun after that. The newest Shockwave also has a gun mode. On top of that, Masterpeice Megatron is available in the US from various importers. This is a silly thread.
for about a year or two after 9/11 the FAA made a specific rule that NO transformers were allowed in planes. Because of the one figure with a weapon mode that was a realistic weapon. It was rarely ever enforced though. Also, when I was in college (1999-2003) it was actually cheaper to fly home then take a train home. I was collecting GI Joe at that time and I had a zip lock bag of GI Joes in my backpack. A TSA person took out an M-16 from a GI JOe that was maybe... 3 inches long and said I can't get on the plane with it. I was having a really bad day that day and I started screaming and is aid "if a pilot lets me take over his or her plane with an obviously too small gun then they don't deserve to be a pilot" and they let me go on the plane with my GI Joes
LOL. When I was home on leave in 2006 I picked up Classics Megatron. On my way home there was a sign at the airport with a list of prohibited items, the last thing on the list was "Transformers robot that transform into the form of a gun" luckily Megs was in my checked bag.
I dont know if I would want another robot to gun figure, but I would really like my bots to include their signature weapons when they are released, unlike Siege Sideswipe or ER Wheeljack.
Cool dude. They have a lot of stupid rules and sometimes you just have to explain to them how dumb they are but sometimes people are so stupid they don't understand Or want to. The easiest way to get away with that is to just keep him in robot form
FYI, the following things will probably never ever get used as designs for alt-modes... Upside Submarines The Letter L A toothbrush with a gun barrel The Numbers 7 or 1 “Masculine” Hairdryers “Menacing” Plungers An Umbrella that doesn’t open and has a “threatening” looking handle Non-Cylindrical Hairbrush Cylindrical Hairbrush A non-orange-tip Cane A microphone stand with a microphone Spray Gun Gun
