Trick with the arms if I remeber right was if you tried to just fold them in, the hinge you needed to bend wouldn't and they would lie flat like there supposed to in the back to let the head rest on his arms, you have to "prep" them at the angle you want before folding them into the body. That way when you fold them in you can force the hinge to bend and they'll flatten out.

And the language barrier too is the factor. Btw, not only the MP instructions being sheety, even their regular releases. Horrorable mentions would be Legends Metroflex and Fortmax (most on the former) as Takara uses black and white images shrunk so small that you can't make any sense on what to do.

    ***sigh***

Unfortunately, my MP-47 Hound had recently developed a nasty crack... :banghead:

    mp47-cracked.jpg

I'm not one of the lucky ones anymore...

Now to decide if I send it back to AMJ for refund/replacement, or just keep it as is. :throw

Definitely don't use the Tamiya cement. Thats made more for PS plastic, the stuff model kits are made from, and is generally useless on ABS.

I used Zap-a-gap medium thickness. It's more of a "hobby grade" super glue, buts it's pretty much Krazy Glue. Based on my own experiences...but it could also just be my bias, the kinds of CA glue you'd buy in a hobby shop, like Zap a Gap, or BSI, just "work" better than something you'd get at Walmart for example.

I was going to knock the pin out regardless, since I wanted to widen the hole, but I wouldn't say it was required. If you're really careful, and make sure you get the glue just on the crack, you should be fine.

Seeing cracks literally just form even without use (as in the example above of it forming overnight) is the damndest thing I've ever seen. I really want this figure but as with MP-44 until/unless I can be assured that this issue is resolved, I'm not biting. Which really depresses me, as I still maintain these figures (in both cases) are some of the most brilliant designs ever seen in this hobby and I will forever stand by that opinion. But this is ridiculous at this point, and no one can argue it's unreasonable to not feel safe risking it.

I'm usually someone who chafes in response to overly negative critique of these masterpieces precisely because I do feel they're so ingenious and special. I genuinely love them, warts and all, so I hope this doesn't come across as "bashing." But it's getting really difficult to ignore, you know?

I had the neck/rocket launcher armature crack. I fixed the crack using Plastruct Bondene model cement. It is holding fine. If I were to repair a hinge crack, I would drive out the pin, use the cement to fix the cracked piece, wait 24 hours, drill out the pin hole a little then reinstall the pin.

Edit: And Plastruct BONDENE is not standard model cement. As @Jarrod indicated, model cements are typically formulated for polystyrene (PS) plastic models and will typically not work for ABS (or whatever kind of green chocolate Hound is molded out of). Plastruct Bondene works for many types of plastics, including PS, ABS, PLA, PETG and others. I use it for all kinds of stuff. If you get some, be sure it says Bondene on the label...Plastruct also makes a standard cement that really only works on PS...that is not what you want here.

Nah, in the case, I wouldn't blame anyone for waiting. Hell, I'd even recommend a high quality KO in Hound's case. This level of QC failure is a whole new level. (I think you should get 44 though...his issues are at least fixable!)

And you definitely don't come across as bashing. You're posts are generally positive, and well worded, thought out, which makes a big difference. And you definitely don't come across as a hater in anyway.

Not at all, I'm waiting to see if the rereleases will be fixed.

The soft ratchets used also bother me because that comes off as just cost-cutting. No other reason I can think of to use mushy, soft plastic for the hips that have easily crushed teeth.

That sucks. Probably won't be able to get a replacement anymore as AMJ ran out of stock.

I don't read anything negative here. It's how many of us feel. I'm sad that I (again) have to seriously consider getting the KO AFTER buying the original.

What was the fix for the armature again?

The rest is still good and I simply don’t think it’s worth a return. I just love it too much.

Confirmed. No replacement as AMJ is out of stock.

Going to get refund as soon as they receive the item back.

I could fix the crack and keep it, but I don't really appreciate not getting any credits or refunds (partial or otherwise) regarding receiving a factory-defective unit without any chance of replacement.

    Quite a bummer...

1). Remove the screw and pull the joint apart
2). Sand/file the outside of the peg the screw goes into to make it a bit thinner (alternatively, you can enlarge the hole the peg fits into)
3). Use super glue or an appropriate solvent-weld plastic cement to fix any cracks
4). Reassemble and reinstall the screw...don’t tighten it any more than necessary

Returned mine to my local vendor today. He was kind enough to give me the option of a refund or credit against future releases, which I took advantage of by picking up an MMC Ravage and the new WW Prime. Plus gotta pay a bit for the difference but overall, glad I don't have to deal with this figure. Just soured my mood. But lesson learned, wait for reviews etc for future MP's instead of jumping on the pre-order bandwagon. I usually get it from my local seller anyway so won't miss out on much in terms of deals.

    Not bashing at all.

It was a hard decision to send mine back when he was almost ‘perfect’, and it certainly wasn’t me trying to “teach Takara a lesson”, but more myself.

It seems strange for a late-thirties guy to say this, but I’m happy to be able to admit to myself that I don’t HAVE to hold on to a flawed figure out of fear of missing out on the new hotness, especially when I’d barely had him two weeks.

I’ve gone almost seven years (since I stepped into the rebooted MP line) without Hound, and I can wait 2-3 more years for a reissue, if that’s what it takes, so that I can (hopefully) get one that doesn’t fill me with apprehension every time I think about/look at it.

Given that many of these failures seem to be more material in nature, I’m not sure that I could ever feel completely confident with one from this run.

I like Hound, he’s long been in my “wants list”, but not enough to play the return/replace game until I get one that appears solid (my copy was among those who seemed fine at first). I don’t have the time nor patience for that with many things in life, and certainly not when it comes to my hobby, which is meant to be fun and relaxing.

    Yeah.

It is hard for me to send mine back, too.

It'll be the very first MP purchase I ever do a return.
