I was messing with this set something fierce last week. I had finally got around to opening and messing with my Selects Star Convoy and I had Big Powered out and about with it. I still love this release. The Shockwave Lab leg fillers really do improve upon it. I recently picked up Legends Topspin and Twintwist to "combine" with him too.
Just a damn fine set. I hope we get more Zone / Battlestar stuff from Selects out of Takara.
I wouldn't mind Unite Warriors and Legends re-releases with added shoulder pauldrons and capes and remolding for the 9 demon generals either. Something to display with Super Megatron whenever they get around to finally revealing him....

I know how to get it to click. There is still a wobble present. I still find it annoying. What we have here are differing opinions as to what constitutes a “big issue”. To me, the wobble kills the figure.

The problem with the current waist is that there is wiggle room between the waist and the torso. I think it could be done with just a new waist if the new waist was just a tad higher, resting flush and tight with the torso.

When you rotate the legs around/backwards and shove it in, the waist doesn't wobble at all when it's backwards.

I did this on accident/out of annoyance because shit was flopping all over the place between transformations, lol.

I didn't fiddle around with it to much to see why, so not sure if there's a hack or fix.

But yes, a new proper joint piece would easily fix it.

Tiny bit of wobble considered "big issue" and "annoying".

    ...

Yeah, okay. You keep being annoyed by entirely minor issues. I hope you don't shake your car bots and find their pinned wheels jiggle in their wheel wells, my dude.

I’m disappointed in my Dai Atlas figure. I’m not try to convince you to be disappointed in your Dai Atlas figure. Have you considered that there could be a variance in our Dia Atlas figures. But it really is an apples and oranges comparison because fixing a loose pinned wheel is an easy fix. If a wheel is too wobbly, just hammer the pin in a little farther. Problem solved.

We have both Sky Shadow (1st version of the mold) and Dai Atlas. We don't have either version of Overlord to compare in person. My son initially passed on Dai Atlas but wanted him after seeing a youtube review.

The waist is a well known issue and completely valid complaint. It's simply not stable by its design. Sky Shadow uses a long rectangular shaped connector. The waist is stable on him but has no rotation as a result.

Dai Atlas' waist does allow for some rotation but it is wobbly and causes the upper body to tilt. IMHO, it's annoying but not a deal breaker. The waist won't come apart on its own.

The bigger problem is the empty calves present in only Dai Atlas' version of the mold. Sky Shadow's tank parts fill in his calf areas. Dai Atlas has these, um, skinny repair arms and the tank attaches backwards compared to the other versions.

Typically, we expect Takara retools to improve on earlier versions of a mold, but in this case, introduced new problems (calves being the major one). IMHO, I understand the need to be closer to source material but keeping Sky Shadow's waist connector and tank parts would have made a much more solid figure. Also, not including his sword was also a blunder.

If you intend to display primarily in robot mode, the Shockwave Lab SL-52 calf filler kits are a must. Currently $16-20 at various sites. As these are painted 3d printed kits, recommend to spray them down with clear coats or varnish sprays to help prevent the paint from coming off.

Their SL-53 Z Sword kit is a mixed bag. It looks bigger and more impressive in person. The problem is that there is no actual 'peg' on the short blades to plug into the hands. Not even a short 5mm section. If you try to force the short blades into the hand ports for a more stable hold, then you will strip the silver paint on them. There are ports on the swords to put on his arm pegs, though.

I didn’t know the upgrade was painted, that’s good to know, mine should finally arrive next week. It looks like I’m picking up some clear coat. I can’t wait for it to show up, I literally have had them in Big Powered mode for close to six months due to Dai Atlas’ shin gaps.

Just as well that I hate the Z Sword, I don’t have to worry about it. It just looks ridiculous.

Isn't Big Powered awesome ridiculous from top to bottom already? :p

After watching the one episode of Transformers Zone, my Dai Atlas feels complete with the Z-Sword (and calves).

Maybe I'll feel different once I've seen Zone, but I just look at that thing and see the universe's least practical weapon, violating the laws of physics with every swing. :D

You can find it subbed on youtube

But here is the scene everyone remembers

The bots he's fighting are Trypticon, Overlord, and various combiners wearing capes and armors.

Topspin and Roadfire are shown to be able to combine with each other, as are Twin Twist and Dai Atlas in the pack-in comics with the instructions for the Big Powered set. Are these combinations replicable with their figures?

Actually yes. If you see a combination in the Legends comics, it can be replicated in real life.

Keep in mind that they're not really official combinations and it's just the author having fun with toys, so don’t expect instructions.

But wait, Topspin can combine with Roadfire? (*Hmmm intensifies thinking about how LG Twin Twist is pretty much gone, but LG Topspin and Big Powered are still in stock...*)

Alright then, any pictures of the figures themselves being able to combine in this way? Or any tips/directions to do this?

You basically just cross-connect them using the waist connector - just futz around until you find something that looks fun
