I don't know what their initial response to downplaying it was, but that delves into the political area that I'm sure is not allowed here. If you're truly concerned about the packages your receiving then keep them somewhere warmer than usual for an hour or so. Other than that there's not much more you can do, save for a UV light, but that would be overkill.

 

So the moral of the story is .....

It's better to buy from China than a domestic retailer. The later might airship their packages and 48 hours might not have passed .....

No, you forgot the part where people complain because retailers often ocean freight large shipments.
Also, regardless of individual or retailer, all of it goes through customs first which typically takes a couple days.
So really, fail all around.

The biggest risk in all of this is however many factory workers at factories that produce 3P products are stuck in quarantine zones. That will create the biggest disruption to this market unless the quarantines end roughly when LNY celebrations would be ending anyway.

It would affect all production, not just toys.

It would be too disruptive and not too useful, since the cat is out of the bag. (The first infection is now stated to be early Dec instead of late Dec.)

I think the authorities will allow a one-time one-way trip for people to return to their place of residence. Then they will be 'quarantined' in that area. Goods can still move in and out, just not people.

I got 2 packages & 1 is currently held up in New Yawk customs. I didn't get sick.......yet

It's funny, I'm pissed off at how long my packages took to get here. My last one is going on 2 months. So I don't want to order anything from China anymore. THEN this happened.

Yeah there's only a handful of confirmed cases in Japan so far.

 

Seems like there's nothing to worry about, but if it'll give you peace of mind, then it's worth doing.
