SS ruined Deluxes for me. Before they used to be my favourite size class. Now Voyagers have taken over.

 

I just can't see Soundwave in silver. Sure he'd blend in better, but deep blue and gold Soundwave just looks right. That face is the stuff of nightmares as well, so faceplate.

Scrapmetal and Hightower are the only two deluxes I've really enjoyed. Everything else is a tiny, fiddly disappointment.

 

I actually really want to paint my Soundwave blue because I think it's just better, (plus the Decepticons NEED more color) but I'm having an ass of a time looking for a metallic dark blue paint in acrylic, because AFAIK, only acrylic paint adheres to rubber well, and I refuse to go blue unless it's specifically metallic dark blue. Anyone have a recommendation for a paint to use?

Yeah it's definitely a shame this figure isn't very entertaining. Hopefully the Satellite version will be more engaging. If not, I'll have to make a truck mode Soundwave from the DOTM videogame from Ratchet just to have one to play with. Ratchet is, after all, the best Deluxe Class from Studio Series - especially after your mod, so it'll be hard to make him lame. (though the more I think about it, the more I just wanna make a custom truck mode Soundwave in general...)

Only thing you can do is bend Laserbeak's legs back to reveal a tab that goes into a rectangular hole on Soundwave's roof.

 

Got him, transformed him once, joined the pop-off headlight club and put him into the box with the rest of the SS disappointments.

 

After having him awhile, I guess I don't see the reasons for disliking him besides paint chipping. Honestly, the fiddly transformation is just par for the course with realistic car altmodes + articulation. Reminds me of tiny Alternators.

 

I bought a second one, and... the head doesn't get stuck on this one, but there was paint damage out of the factory. a circular mark near the right front door. I will have to get a third one... and will do.

For the sake of collecting focus I quit the movie lines... but there’s a couple figures I would have made an exception but they were just too darn small.

Did him up a little. It’s hard to tell but laserbeak is sprayed silver too. I like the look of the figure a lot more with these few paint apps I added.

 

And this is why we need a Selects line for the Studio Series! I kinda miss the G1 inspired decos on Movie toys... like the 07 G1 Seekers.

 

Anyone have recommendations for what blue paint to use on the arm speakers?
