I couldn't agree more. Worst is the bottom of the barrel like authentics or the combined mode (and only the combined mode) of armada prime, or Cyberverse, or movie one legion class. I dare someone with a straight face to tell me that the figures listed above have better sculpt, plastic, paint, and articulation than this:
It has to be that half-transformed Cyberverse toy. Next up would be the RPM version that was just a truck with a face drawn on the underside. Chintzimus Prime from either AOE or TLK (blue shellformer with chromed chest) would make third.
Just thought of another contender - Hybrid Style G1 Convoy. At Voyager size the design might work. But this figure is too small for the overly-complex transformation to work. It got to the point where I considered popping the sides of his abdomen off one of the steps of transformation.
Pretty much this. I actually think Classics Deluxe, Last Knight Voyager, and Combiner Wars Optimus Prime are all really decent figures. Neither Power of the Primes nor either Titans Return Optimus Prime measure up to the Siege Voyager, but that's the worst criticism I can level against either of them, since they are all trying to do and be very different things. Even the AOE Leader Optimus Prime does form a fully articulated robot and a reasonably convincing truck. The Authentics Optimus (Bumblebee too, from that line) is just taking the cheap, simple engineering to the worst possible extreme in the same line as fairly decent looking versions of Grimlock, Starscream, and Megatron. I do think the AOE One-Step that makes no illusion of presenting itself as a convincing truck with the arms just exploding out the ass end, let alone being a decent robot with its stubby and disproportionate body, is the absolute worst, though. Yes, it's for kids, but so are the likes of Bumblebee and Galvatron from the same subset of the same line, and both of them at least live up to the "robots in disguise" tagline, but One-Step Optimus doesn't even do that.
G2 Dairy Queen kids meal Optimus. No transformation, articulation, gimmick, or hands. Weird stickers.
I don't feel like I can really judge any of those. Yeah, I dislike them, but I'm just not the correct audience for them. For someone who wants an Optimus Prime with a semi-transformation gimmick, or a Rock'em Sock'em version, or Optimus Prime as an Angry Bird, they fulfill their purpose. They just aren't for me.
Ah, G1 Optimus...let me count the ways he's amazing. He was the most poseable toy that came out in the Transformers line in 1984. He had: 1) Articulated arms - They could bend 90 degrees at the elbows and his arms could go 360 degrees at the shoulder. He could even do poses where his arms needed to be pointed out at odd angles. No other Transformer in 1984 could do that. 2) Articulated knees - They could correctly bend 90 degrees. Again, no other Transformer could do that in 1984. 3) Articulated head - He can look up towards the sky if needed (Yeah, it's a bit of a cheat but he still can do it) 3) Cartoon accurate vehicle mode - His vehicle mode is perfect when comparing it to the cartoon..in some ways, better 4) Yeah, his fists have to pop on and off, but then again that having parts that pop on and off was par for the course for G1 You can't really fault him for having stickers...Transformers (even 3rd party ones at times) use label sheets. People even buy stickers from 3rd parties to put on their new Transformers. The G1 Optimus Prime toy is really the standard by which all newer versions of Prime are measured.
I once got an OP at McDonald's that wasn't even a robot. It was just a truck, that shot cardboard discs and it was named Optimus Prime. How's that for crappy? It went into the charity bag.
*Mumbles something about Earthrise Optimus Prime being made completely to look like the original G1 Optimus Prime*
G1 with actually good toys, but G1 nonetheless. Tbh I get the appeal of G1 optimus. I just think compared the current stuff he's not that good.
Cool cool... I grew up with G1, so I can place it in the time it came out. Back in 1984, when it came to Transformers, there was nothing better than Optimus Prime. We ended up getting two because my brother and I would fight all the time over who got to play with him. I have a lot of Optimus Primes in my collection, including G1, Powermaster, Armada (both versions), Cybertron, Masterpiece, Power of the Primes, Robot Masters, World's Smallest, Chibi Robo, Alternators, Titanium Series, Siege, Movie, Movie Trilogy reissue, and Masterpiece (MP-01). It all comes back to G1, though with Earthrise. It hits all the right spots for me. Earthrise Optimus will definitely have a home in my collection once he comes out.
That Classics Prime from the 2 pack isn't a good figure, but it's nowhere near the worst. Sure the alt mode blows, but the bot mode is fairly decent. Similarly, people rave about THS-02 Prime and his alt mode is comparably awful...but yeah, the bot mode is fantastic.
