Even if OM Bruticus looks "spindly" it's still in the right direction to improve on an all-in-one design later on down the road. Using "pants" is the polar opposite of achieving that.

Some yeah.... I for one wasn't even born yet so..... Eeeeh. I came to the fandom pretty much when the movies did, so I simply learned to appreciate combiner pants being the future for solid combiners by looking at releases over time. rather than liking it because it's g1.

 

I don’t like partsforming at all, but if it’s a huge combiner and the partsforming is minimal then it’s OK. Most combiners partsform to a ridiculous degree and there’s no excuse, but SS devastator having a couple parts that swap around is OK, because look at that damn thing! More than that though and I don’t like it.

 

Agreed. My "headcanon" for SS Devastator is that his head just pops off the cab and then he angrily grabs it and smashes it back down on his body.

I don't even like that, to be honest. But, at least it's sensical. The pants remind me of Sentai of old where you can tell it's pants first, and then everything else is designed around it.

 

Haha I like that! For me it’s really just that the movie designs are so impossible sometimes that to do something like devastator allows for some leeway. But the G1 style “build them like legos” combiners don’t do anything for me anymore.

I have little doubt we'll see something in a 3P add on kit if it doesn't happen initially.
