Apparently Super7 used the bad Mattel's figure to make the new Lion-O and not the good 4Horsemen's prototype, unfortunately, because they were supposed to improve the issues. I feel very disappointed, I warned about this last August.
I never ready understood the need for ab crunch articulation in most characters. Spider-Man, Batman, ninjas, sure...I get it it. Lion-o? Nah I don’t see the point really.
Tbh I can live with the above issue for Lion-O. Its not exactly, er “toy breaking”. As long as the QC is decent (the toy does not crumble to pieces), I’m ok. Personally, I’m worried about shoddy paint apps!
Not a dealbreaker, but it'd have been nice for Brian to have tried to address some of the issues that were on the original Mattel figs (not just Lion-O's torso, but Jackalman's reversed lower legs). I mean, yes, I know how to fix the legs, but it's not exactly easy either and not something you want to do to a brand-new toy, a toy a lot of us already have and which he's asking us to pay $45 for. To me, if he at least fixes Jackalman's legs, then okay. But if he just lets these errors slide, then, well, that's disappointing. For people bothered by these problems, just contact Brian via his Instragram/Twitter/etc. and let him know (politely, of course). I mean, if that results in better figures for all of us, it's worth the effort. So in that regard, I appreciate what Baedal is doing.
Ah, I didn’t read about the part about Jackalman’s legs issue. On that point I agree that Super7 should fix it. For me, I’m kinda numbed to the above issues after going through TF MP shoddy QC which killed the line for me. X)
It’s just never been a deal breaker for me. I’ll take a solid sculpt/design over a poorly implemented ab crunch any day. But just personal preference I guess. I keep figures until a static pose if I’m keeping them in the shelf anyways.
There is no reason why the piece of Lion-O's abdomen isn't the same as the other figures, the details fit perfectly and functionally to the old piece, it wasn't necessary to remake it so badly. There is also no reason for them to have made it shorter than normal, this can be seen on the back, it is clearly a factory error. In addition to that ugly gap, this piece greatly influences the figure proportion and overall appearance. When compared to another side-by-side figure the issue is further exposed. I posted this in August when they opened the pre-order, I never thought that Super7 would do the same, it's really a shame, I wanted the figure to be better.
Even ignoring the sculpt lineage and not being up to date on the Super7 figures I can tell that Lion-O is just completely inferior and inaccurate to what came before. The gaps in articulation and the squat proportions are obvious even at a glance. Also, what's up with the right hand?
Me too. I am not unhappy with my Mattel Lion-O I really don’t think the gap is all that bothersome in hand but there is no reason not to correct it this time. At all.
Sweet! I almost bought the entire line-up but I was pre-warned that they break easily at the legs? May I know where you got Snarf from?
@LigerPrime it is the Loyal Subjects Snarf, came in a blind bag with Lion-O I haven’t had a problem with the legs. They don’t get as much movement as vintage MOTU figures and sometimes they pop off the ball joint. My main issue is they don’t hold their weapons well.
With S7 products, are they that fragile? I am buying this new Thundercat line, to open and display on stands (any recommendations) in a case (very little to no handling afterwards).
