As I got SIEGE Crosshairs and Ratchet now and prefer them way over Ironhide (he's not bad but pretty boring to me compared to the other variants of the mold) I thought about either selling him OR doing something with him. And somehow I felt like he could be a good Impactor. The one from the IDW comics line Requiem of the Wreckers in particular.

So I was thinking about just painting him in Impactor's colors and pegging his hammer in missile launcher mode into his right front shoulder port. But as I planned other customs and got to the point that I need a second SIEGE Impactor (original mold) for my WfC SIEGE Armada Demolishor (coming soon) I noticed that I will have a spare Impactor head and decided to put that one onto Ironhide's body:

The balljoints of both molds seem to have the same size so I guess you can do head swaps in the entire SIEGE line or maybe even WfC trilogy as you please.
The only downside is to remove the head you need to pry the front and the back halves apart:

They all seem to be connected by 3 pegs and ports and the one on the top is glued together unfortunately. (Ratchet's was an exception. The head halves seperated very smoothly and didn't seem to have any glue at one of the connections.) As you can see in the following pictures I broke them at both heads but fortunately that doesn't prevent them from staying together.

That's the progress so far.
I first planned to go pretty much exactly with the colorscheme of the comics but now I want to give him a hexagon pattern and therefore go with the traditional colorscheme (yellow legs) for him. I'll definitely use the pattern on the yellow parts and put yellow or golden hexagon on a purple base so only the outlines of the hexagons will be purple and I'm thinking about doing it the other way around for the purple parts but I'm not sure if that would be a bit too much.
And I will differ from the comic version even a bit more by turning him into a hovercar. The original plan was to give him Ratchet's wheels but as I looked at Crosshairs with removed wheels I thought that this mold would make a great hovercar/-van especially with the thrusters at the rear. So I bought some LEGO 41862 pieces to put them into his wheel wells.

Not the whole part of course. I'll cut the ends off and rotate them a 90 degress so the thrust goes the sides down angled. As I got those pieces I noticed that they are a bit small and there will be a lot of free space left in the wheel wells. So if anybody has a good idea what to do with that feel free to post it in here. I was thinking about just filling the wheel wells with apoxy but wouldn't look that great. I'd need to mold in some grooves and greebling but I've never done that.
So my version will be a crossover between the Requiem of the Wreckers undercover alt mode one and the G1 hovertank.

*EDIT: And I will put Impactor's signature (according to his instructions: Earthbreaker) cannon on his right shoulder so he will have the W-35 LR Doomblast Forge Launcher (Ironhide's hammer) either on his left one or in his hand.

Btw I finally found out now how to digibash WITHOUT an expensive software like Photoshop. I just used Microsoft Paint. It's pretty easy: choose Highlighter for Outline and Fill - et VIOLA...

That's too much    But thanks a lot! It's great to hear people enjoy my customs as well as I do.

And here's already some progress:
First I removed some plastic so Impactor's head fits inside the cockpit and the canopy can be closed completely.

And next I installed the ball joint for the shoulder cannon. I cutted out a part of the right shoulder to fit in a LEGO Mixels ball joint socket. I just forgot to take a picture before gluing in the socket, so sorry. Then I cutted this piece in half:

And put the socket into the shoulder with Tamiya Cement glue. I hope it'll be sturdy enough to withstand the friction and leverage of the joint.

interesting! i also look forward to seeing Armada Demolisher! he was my second favourite character in Armada

 

Which one was your favorite?

 

Screamer, his character design and character development near the end of Armada was unique to me. its a shame that he never carried that throughout the UT, but then again that would change the entire story. but, again, then again Wheeljack changed into a Decepticon so why shouldnt Starscream be an Autobot?

 

Absolutely. He could have been the new Dinobot.

I like the yellow stripe on the side better. Makes it look like a harness on the vehicle mode connecting the front lights to the back end.

that said, I always thought Impactor had such an ugly color scheme. But you work with what you have lol

 

Man, at first I was like "Why does he do a Siege Impactor custom? We got two official ones in the line?" but now I see you are up to something great!

 

I haven't made my final decision on that yet. The thing is that the shins, the big yellow part in the back of the alt mode, will have a pattern. And I'm not sure if that would look good with the connecting stripe.

Then maybe you'll like how this one will turn out because he's gonna look pretty royal with the paints I chose for him.

There's ALWAYS SOME reason to do a custom  
So first I thought Ironhide would make a good Impactor and I wanted to do SOMETHING with the future leftover parts of my SIEGE Impactor, then I came to RotW Impactor and later I thought "Let's just throw some Marvel UK Impactor into the mix" because I wanted to go with the traditional color scheme because I wanna try something with patterns AND I want him to hover in alt mode because I want to use his wheels for TLK Barricade and have different wheels for all of my SIEGE Ironhide/Crosshairs mold customs (there will be four as soon as I've finished all of them not including Ratchet). So yeah, that's pretty much how I ended up with what you will see here

The windshield looks interesting but I’m not feeling the honeycomb pattern on the back end. But if that’s what you like, go for it.

 

It's something I want to try. I think it'll look way better on the actual finished thing. But if it turns out looking terrible I can always repaint it  
And for the windshield those are just the details on the inside painted in red and silver.

CW offroad wouldve made a good earth mode impactor

 

No worries there for both cases. Yes, this is still ongoing but not at the moment unfortunately. I hope/guess I will have time to get back to customizing at the end of this year. Unfortunately time's scarce for me at the moment.

Nice idea and even better CW Trailbreaker as he has a gun for his right hand but I only got inspired by RotW Impactor and quickly turned to making a Cybertronian version of it. Might even add him to my future TransTech custom line (up).
I'd really like to see one realized out of CW Trailbreaker but I'm most likely not going to do it.
