Thinking about the designer's design philosophy, besides going for a more obari-styled SS here, it feels like the way they designed the metal friction joints reminds me a lot of the earlier metal build and super robot chogokin toys. This type of action figure design works well on smaller figures in the 5-8 inch realm, but this guy is at least 13-14 inches tall here. Sadly, this was my same problem I had with Flame Toy's SS for only using friction joints and being combiner. Initially for maybe a year the joints will hold up, but in time maintenance will have to be done and metal on metal joints are not that easy tighten up.

I will wait for some more in-hand reports, but this is looking less of a MUST BUY to a maybe get on sale.

I would have traded die cast for really good hardware (nylon ratchets) in combined mode. Saber's fine for me, a bit more ankle articulation would've been nice along with a panel over the forearm gap. Combined mode looks good, paint and sculpt-wise.

The MP also made so!e sacrifices on Saber, like hollow forearms and limited articulation. The combined mode head mechanism on the other hand is really cleaver, the head is on armature that can be detached and fits nicely into a slot on Star Saber's back.
Another thing that is a bit of a shame for this figure is that it doesn't look like having storage for the sword on the V Star, Saber pulling out the blade was an iconic part of the combination sequence.

Eh, the advantage of friction joints is that they allow for very precise fine tuning when posing the figure, but as you said, I have the same loosening problems on my metal build figures, and this thing is four times the weight...

Yeah, what I see are two sets of fixed posed hands, one for holding the weapons and one with splayed fingers for posing.

As much as I've been crushing hard over the Obari styling, I hate to admit it but that video seriously cooled my enthusiasm. The lack of ratchets is a major WTF for me. A figure that big with that much diecast practically begging to be played with, and it's gonna rely solely on friction joints? Seriously?! I can't think of a single figure I play with regularly with friction joints that haven't loosened up over time, some so badly they're floppy messes now.

I'm still hopeful but not gonna lie this went from an instabuy to a wait and see what reviews are like now.

This would be so sad and hilarious, but what if KFC made another ratchet upgrade kit for a Star Saber figure?

They might also get around to do it themselves and include it with Leo, i find it hard to believe that if they find his joints unable to hold all the weight during testing they'd still go through with it ignoring the issue

Funny thing is, I know about four Star Saber figures currently available or soon to be released (this one, the MP, the Flame Toys one and the Planet X one) and for each of them there are concerned about the Victory Saber combination, either because of friction joints or ratchets too weak. Seems like a curse.

I was just thinking about this. The planet x one is mind blowing because, to me, its only flaws are the hip and knee ratchets being a bit iffy

No Star Saber toy should be produced without checking that he has mostly ratchets across him.

Unless he’s planned to be a brick.

wonder what category scored the lowest.

Hmm...saber's transformation into the chest having pecs with Rob liefeld proportions. Not sure if intentional or unintended.

Paint finish in these photos look great. If I did get this guy, I would probably skip Victory Leo and just have this SS for display as a slick looking poseable Star Saber that I would occasionally mess with. I hope the mechanism to stick Saber in the chest is easier than the MP. The MP was always a little too tight and annoying.
