Well I have thoughts about toy marketing strategies from time-to-time that are less then flattering and I won't derail the thread bitching about it too much. But lets just say that that precise mindset of "Show Only" has been leading to the downward spiral of another of Hasbro's flagship brands from a healthily diverse mix of show and non-show, to obnoxious repetition and a small character pool that has caused extreme brand fatigue. Pray that never happens to transformers. I guarantee its not pretty to behold within a single generation.

My point is, it doesn't hafta be in the show for a consumer of any age to like it and they certainly aren't ridiculous for liking a toy that they like the aesthetic of.

Hm. Maybe we're getting some wires crossed here. I have no real opinion on the validity/value of toys that are "show only". Toys that have no show are fine. Not sure how you got that I don't like toys that don't have a show representation, but that's never been my position.

My comment, IIRC, was mostly regarding one gentleman poster who thought that Quintessons were a weird thing to try to sell to kids. My point was that kids don't care if it is or isn't in a show, and will usually buy anything if it's sufficiently cool/weird/gross/whatever. Whether or not something is supported by a show is irrelevant. That Boglin and those Fugly dolls don't have a show to my knowledge, yet they sold/sell at least in part. That's my point. You don't need a show. Just a fun looking product that'll appeal to a child's mercurial mind and tastes.

In short, there's nothing intrinsically "wrong" about a toy related to a kids' show that doesn't have screen representation in that show regardless of who is buying it - adult or child. That said, sometimes you end up with the Justice Jogger:

I've not been following Cyberverse closely, so I'm sure there's a "Justice Jogger" in there too, and some kid will want it.

It seems we did get lines crossed. My mistake, but it still makes it no less ridiculous or dumb.

Yeah, I agree. Frankly I've always gravitated towards non-show figures as a kid. There was way more imagination involved with what you do with them.

I don't necessarily believe that every toy needs to be slavish to the show either. These aren't toys for me. I want screen accuracy, but I don't expect my three year old to even remotely give a crap. More importantly, he's gonna dig Bumblebee's spinning laser arm gun thingamabob because he's THREE and does not car if Bumblebee is the right kind of car.

Again, my statement: "Kids are dumb", was mostly meant to be a glib little joke. Of course I agree that sometimes even entirely intelligent children will want hilariously stupid toys. However, kids lack impulse control and maturity which results in them wanting those things regardless of intelligence level.

All that said, the one thing that's kept me from collecting Cyberverse? Scale. There's like three sizes to these figures and none of them fit right with one another and I just KNOW that this Quint won't scale with anything properly.

Found the quintesson pack today and bought it just for the quintesson.

Opened it up and immediately regretted wasting $30.

I saw them and just couldn't pull the trigger on the price. Ditto the Hot Rod/Sharkticon set. Maybe on sale - but with my limited amount of shelf space, I feel like my money can be better spent elsewhere in the meantime.

I really hope that Quintesson gets a release for the Earthrise line. I just read this whole thread, and seems like it is just wishful thinking. They show a Quint in the Earthrise boxart packaging, right?
