    A question:

I'm selling my box set as individual Dinobots at $15.66 (converted from local currency) per figure (plus accessories), BIB, never transformed (except for Swoop). Is the price reasonable? :p

I can almost 100% guarantee that this isn’t true. Given MS and NA are going hard at Legends scale, one or both will eventually get to the Dinobots and both have shown the skill to do better than the DX9 effort. And I imagine if MS do it well enough, MFT will probably,y upsize for a V2 Dinobots set. After years of one-up man ship in the MP arena, it’s clear that every thing can ALWAYS be done better.
And the beauty of NA doing them is that they may well get KO’d for those who don’t want to pay full price (I don’t need KO’s because TaoBao prices are a LOT better than the mainline retailers but the option is there for those who need it)
Having said that, these do work pretty well in bot mode for both NA and MS collections. I’m not getting a second set for alt mode because I’m confident that NA will do them eventually but they fit great for bot mode in the meantime.
Not sure if anyone got back to you but no, I’m afraid the TS paints from Tamiya aren’t that forgiving. They’re a synthetic lacquer rather than an acrylic or enamel. They dry very fast, and are very tough, but you need pretty powerful lacquer thinner to clean up after them and the thinner can melt plastic if you’re not careful so it’s tough to wipe dried paint off without melting the plastic. They also only come in spray cans so you either paint using the spray cans or have to decant it out of the tin for airbrushing or manual brushing. But the range of colours is great and it’s a hell of a lot more durable than standard acrylics. Also the fumes are pretty toxic ( both the paint and the thinner) so you really need to use a proper face mask and excellent ventilation when spraying it.

@FiVE1ZERO -- @Starganderfish knows of what he speaks!

I'd just add that Tamiya and Mr. Hobby sell their own branded lacquer thinners which are made with plastic in mind and so are milder than the stuff you'd get at a hardware store. Go easy with them and they won't eat your plastic. But if you mask off your parts fully and take a few practice sprays on a junk part, you shouldn't need to correct any mistakes.

@Starganderfish and @FredVIII Hey Thanks guys! And.... Just like that I won't be Painting my figures anytime soon lol. Really just wanted to paint my GP Grimlock eyes a Metallic blue but even with a fine very tip brush,I got out of the lines but luckily the acrylic paint I used was forgiving. Lol

if you want to paint the eyes just use a painters pen from walmart. they have a bad ass matrix blue that i have used on plenty of bots.

the trick for super fine details like eyes and ect are. you need to dab the paint onto something to form a tiny bubble. then just use a toothpick to pick up some of the drop. touch the eyes or whatever and watch the paint flow out.

it works like a charm every time....good luck

@lilcarus Thanks for the heads up! I eventually said screw it and was able to cut some blue Prism stickers and called it a day. Anyways my apologies for derailing the thread. Back to Dx9's Dinobots.

All good. Also, if you are just doing eyes, skip the Tamiya Lacquers and use an Acrylic paint. Tamiya gloss acrylics come in small jars for brush work, are fine for small details like eyes, and wash up in water. Dry paint can be wipes away with a little isopropyl alcohol. Plenty of other manufacturers as well and they’re fine for small details. The lacquers are better for larger areas that need to resist scratching and paint rub.
But stickers, cellophane, even shiny metallic wrapping paper also work!!

Thanks man, really glad you like 'em!! I've got a basic Sony A6000 mirrorless camera with the kit lens set to sub 20mm zoomed out, because I like the wide angle distortion for group photos and big bots (focus is a bit spiky but serviceable). Then their basic E 30mm f3,5 macro lens, cheap and cheerful but takes perfectly fine close ups for legends figures (I used it for these photos for example) I reckon. Then their E 35mm F1,8 which is great if you want to focus on one MP bot and it's sharp as a tack!

Lighting is preferably from my kitchen window but I live in Sweden now so it's hard to get much daylight this time of year! Otherwise it's mostly cheap stuff, floor lamps, kitchen light strips and almost always, mini lightboxes (I bought a few of them from a teenager at a jumble sale which were originally for putting custom text over as a bedroom decoration!) Basically I like to work with whatever I can and don't use any digital backgrounds or effects and the like (that's for professional masters like IAMNOFIRE et al.)

I got the dark dinobots to use as decepticon dinobots and they look pretty sweet fighting their doubles

I thought I read somewhere that the tolerances were better than the first release of the g1 dinos

from what i remember they still suffer from all tha same problems as before. i know we had hoped that they were way better than before. but i distinctly remember hearing how slugs foot might actually be worst that the g1 set.

Some of the tolerances are better. Slags feet are loose but his hips are a lot better.

I’m kinda ready to move in from this set though. Grimlock is a good deal better than the rest imo, and the only one I display with the rest of the autobots. He has much better feet.

If I kept them in dino mode I’d probably like them better, they’re just dated.

Has anyone reviewed the dark/Decepticon set? I’ve not found any actual pics of them in hand yet - but maybe I’m not searching right?

is this DX9 set the best/only? legends size dinobots available?

i'm aware of the MFT OS KOs, but i'm not really looking for bigger. were there any improvements made by MFT, or just exact same but OS?
