There's a market for cheap Toys, so Hasbro decided to fulfill it with their product, and take money away from actuale Knockoffs; It's actually clever, to fulfill the demand.

 

Authentics it is a line of figures under the Evergreen concept; The idea is that these figures are in stores, supermarkets and similar sites, and are the one that uncle, grandmother, etc., gives to a child because he has the vague idea that he likes transformers. This is why they are very recognizable designs, and they are also simple for any child to convert.

Ah! okay that makes enough sense. Cheap figures of recognizable characters to fill shelves, I guess between Cyberverse and Generations there is a little spot in the middle for something like this... Thanks for the insight dudes!

 

There is a market for cheap toys, but these aren't cheap. The large ones are $15 and would be expensive if they were $5. If you actually get the chance to see them, you'll feel terrible for anyone who actually got one.

 

I think the issue that people have the feeling it's not worth the price is due to the lower parts count and wider use of ball joints, which collectors sorta consider obsolete at this point (Collectors lines have like ALOT of smaller parts and have like plenty of them to build all those articulated parts, combined with all the metal pieces that give those figures some added heft and sturdiness. Like Authentics figures might have some of those screw holes, and/or the occasional metal pin with a round,flat top on it. But those are likely used to hold up the torso.) Also the hollowness would be a Big turnoff.

It would have also helped if they had extensive use of 5mm & 3mm ports for transformation to give them a sturdier hold for vehicle mode. Along with added play-ability for robot mode. Like those large parts would totally need those in the large sculpted parts.

Imagine those kinds of molds coming with stuff like thighs with 5mm ports used for transformation. Along with accessories that come with Siege effect compatibility. Maybe hidden accesories that serve as a way to get rid of the hollowness.

Like, Optimus, Megatron, and Grimlock still pretty flawed but at least they have some basic articulation, Especially Megs since his leg articulation is rather nuts for something in that line. Ankle tilts on a basic figure like that would be a step to the right direction.

But there's no saving that poor Bumblebee mold. He's just a lost cause.

 

Indeed, I have megatron and I can confirm that they are Voyager size.

 

I have seen them at big lots that is where I bought my megatron.

 

Even soundwave and ratchet?

 

While none of these are on my must have list, i would buy Soundwave or Rachet if i see them 

 

Late last year I picked up the Voyager sized Grimlock from Walgreens, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them there in the not too distant future.

For the price that I paid, I was quite happy with him; in some ways I like him more than the POTP Grimlock.

That's not true at all. The basics are $6 and are the size of One-Steps. The voyagers are $10 and the titan changers are $12. Some of them are problematic. Some of them are cheap thrills.

The Megatron Titan Changer has many 5mm holes on him. it's kind of neat that he has holes on both the side and the top of his forearm so you can reposition his arm canon.

As long as you aren't expecting too much, I'd rank them:

Basic Bumblebee (uses a ball joint as a unique vertical flip conversion technique that almost always causes the leg to fall off during transformation - seriously hoping Ratchet doesn't use it too)

In the end, these are great to just have and toy around with. Voyager Megatron, though, is the star of the show. While he looks a bit odd, his articulation is staggering - only missing a waist swivel to put him over the top.

 

Somewhere theres a dimension where thes came out right after G1, Beast Wars or Armada and the fandom was blown away.

 

I’d rather have an upscaled Pretender Grimlock with no extra articulation and no Pretender shell than that Grimlock.

 

Really, i would expect they might upscale some Cyberverse toys with newly tooled parts. Especially those Spark Armor Battle Class Figures.

 

Any chance of a UK release? I hope so, because that soundwave looks remarkably good for a baby’s-first-former.

I picked up most of the existing Authentics last summer, and most of them are pretty good (Megatron, Grimlock) or close to pretty good with only one notable issue (Optimus Primes' elbow socket being aligned weirdly). The only exception was the Bumblebee molds, which were legitimately awful.

Ratchet and Soundwave look pretty good. I own plenty of toys of them already, but since these figures are so cheap, I'll probably pick them up if I see them anyway.
