I sold something and temporarily have money, PRAISE DE LARD!

Saw a Maketoys Hypernovae for £100 and was ‘this’ close to jumping on it when I noticed that there’s a crack in the wing harness so it’s a bit delicate. Since the chances of getting a spare part to replace it are ZERO I regretfully passed up on it. What a wrench :(

I shared this on Twitter and started some fun conversations - and even potential purchases - so why not here too? Here are my collecting goals for 2020!

Definitely not things I need to find sealed, though, just really really nice :)

Fort Max will be more of a lifetime goal, as opposed to this year I suspect.

    All the best

Really hoping for a “Rumble” and Buzzsaw repaint in Earthrise either in the mainline or as a selects.

Split Seconds is sort of the G2 of MASK. I love Detonator, Stiletto and Afterburner, so Split Seconds works for me.
With MASK I never cared for the cartoon or the comic, so it is purely based on the strength of the toys for me. And I love it. No nostalgia either really, I never owned any as a kid, I only ever remember Rhino from kids at school and seeing him in store.

All my MASK boxes are compromised in one way or another but one side is always fairly intact. I've toyed with cutting the boxes down and framing the art but I'm not sure I'm brave enough.

I really need Goliath in better condition. He looks great. I think Bulldog and Outlaw are my current favourites. Such chunky toys.

2.5 inch scale is very overlooked. Star Wars vehicles could have really benefited from this scale.

Seems UK TF Twitter have finally copped to James Roberts' resemblance to Pincher's pretender shell, I'm like "Where have you lot been?!"

    Very true!

    Very, very true.

It still amazes me that they managed to get 'goodyear' onto the tires. Those first two series of toys really blow my mind.

In other news, I just bought smoke Matchbox Parasites. Help?

Turns out Rung wasn't his 'Mary Sue'. His self insert character goes waaaaaay back.

Plus his self-insert has the ability to insert in himself!
Or perhaps as Shir Shean Connery would put it "himshellf"!

No help from me. Parasites are one of my favourite weird 80s toylines.

I do wish you would stop with all the temptation, that Ratbat (thatbat) is looking mighty tempting, but I must be strong and stick to the FoC one. Don't. Need. Another. Ratbat. No matter how perf it is. Hell, I've even got a KO MP one.

Nice, Optimus LAM remains one of my favourite figures, and possibly my favourite transformations, despite me liking the simple ones (honourable mention truck Armourhide). I fondly remember at the beginning of my TF career spending an hour manhandling a 50p plastic mess into the truck as I was driven back to London, nice.
He will be the cornerstone of my small movie display when I get them out hopefully, I even kept a mostly-there junker of that awful, awful Starscream for just that option.

    What he said,
and what he said, Bees and Ops only leave in exceptional circumstances.

Thought I would self-upgrade my IT at work today -
    DSC_2537.JPG

Ironically, at the time you could just upgrade the keyboard to the 128 design, or actually upgrade the whole caboodle to 128K.....
….I chose the cheaper option, poor 48K fing inside.

Off to the shop in Weston tomorrow with you!

    Laters.

    excellent news!

MASK is very much my "when i'm 'done' with Transformers" line - great concept, incredible packaging, and really well constructed toys that have held up really well in the decades since..

MASK is amazing. I really expected to find little to no appeal with toys that had no robot mode, and were effectively just vehicles with gimmicks. Having my first batch in hand - Rhino, Thunderhawk and Condor - made me realise how enduring their appeal, and just how excellent having them in hand really is.

It's very much put me onto the trail of a few tasty looking GI Joe items too, makes me think I would fall in love with a Rolling Thunder.

    All the best
    Maz

It is actually a hugely enjoyable scale, I must admit. Handling Rhino and Switchblade is more pleasurable than a fair number of TFs at varying scales.

However, I was just yesterday thinking how amazing it would be to have a lot of the MASK toys scaled down to fit in a bit more harmoniously with G1. Maybe a shade bigger.
Imagine a Rhino toy with all the gimmicks, but at voyager Movie Prime scale. Thunderhawk with his wingdoors at G1 car or RID Deluxe class scale...I think it'd make for a lovely collectible toy line.

    All the best

MASK is probably the best example of how counter-productive that whole trend of "do 65 episodes in one go" was. Here was a toyline successful enough to last four years, but there was nowhere to showcase the new toys as the cartoon had blown through their episode order.

One of the funny things about them is...I can't remember if I actually owned one as a kid. I'm hoping getting some in hand might help clarify the memory.

I'm a monster and I can only apologise. Though I rarely bother myself to do even that.

Ratbat's a pure gem. I've enjoyed him so much. I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up in my top ten of the year.

Oh god. Despite it being the toyline I probably enjoyed the most as a kid, I've promised myself that I'm NOT going to start collecting Action Force/G.I.Joe. In just about every metric I can think of, from real estate, to cost, scarcity of items in acceptable condition, to just sheer volume, that is just too big a rabbit hole for me to fall down (equally true for Star Wars). I mean, my collection wouldn't ever be complete until I had a USS Flagg...and that's...*shudders*. No, better for me to simply never start.

But you know, maybe if I just got Snake Eyes and Zartan...

We're all gonna have to ask serious questions of ourselves when Hasbro and their licencees whip out Ghostbusters, GI Joe and MASK this year.

Personally I should be able to resist most of Ghostbusters unless they start producing either the bigger ghost/accessory showpieces or the ghost humans like Granny Ghost. Then I'm likely fucked... GI Joe I can't see me getting into unless it's really cool in my eyes and linked into the other brands, which is of course Hasbro's ultimate aim if they could... MASK, Primus help me, I'm not sure I'd have the space as much as I'd likely want them. And goodness knows what large vehicles will cost these days

EDIT - LMAO, this is great, but you want how much!?

    Lil Dumpster Fire Vinyl Figure

FURTHER EDIT - Just watched Pixel Dan's Super 7 movie He-Man review, that face sculpt looks a lot better in hand seemingly so I bit the bullet.

Also it's gonna be another year of spending a fortune on Lego but I'll wait for most of these to at least appear in B&M as I've sets I still haven't built yet! (And search for the Marvel mechs here, I think they're cool)

Exactly, start with just those few choice items that have some meaning to you or irresistible wow factor, no need to have them all.

Decided to go with "Siege Gangmoulding" rules for Peacemaker, or his hippy cousin Peaceman if Hasbro pull their fingers out, so he's got all red on him!
