I think this is a great idea for an appreciation thread. because let's face it, repaints are more likely to be frowned upon rather than appreciated. in fact my first response to repaints is usually negative, but I'm so glad I got the ones that i did. and I'm sure they'll be more in the future. its been a thing since the 80's. initially implemented (and still used today) as a marketing gimmick to decrease production cost, and increase sales revenue. but who cares about all that boring crap. cuz as it turns out we've gotten a lot of great characters & figures out of it..

as I'm sure most of us do, I've got a plethora of repaints. I'm currently getting some stuff together, so I can take some photographs.. looking forward to it..

Nice group shot! I really love Artfire using that mold. I know we are getting Earthrise Grapple and most likely an Inferno remold but I don't know if I would be interested in an Artfire from that mold. I think the bigger bulkier mold looks great for him and will differentiate him if we do get a Selects Earthrise Artfire.

But on the flip side of that, United Stepper/Ricochet is proverbial mic drop on that character. The deco looks really good on the RTS Jazz mold that I don't know if I'll ever need an upgrade for him either. I know that Selects Ricochet didn't impress me enough to "upgrade".

It’ll never stop bothering me that the grey one is Bluestreak and the the blue one is Smokescreen.

It's a reference to his personality which is lost on a lot of people because the phrase fell out of use. "Talking a blue streak" means "never shutting the hell up" which is what Bluestreak did according to his original bio.

Huh, so that’s why they have those names. The things I learn about the 80s never cease to get a “Huh, neat.” Out of me.

Is this that Toys R Us one from right before they went out of business? I bought one from the one in my hometown and never got around to opening him, but he looks ridiculous even in the box

For me, I love the 3 "true" Datsuns, but don't care for Barricade which shouldn't have been a recolour. I have no attachment to the character and find that he doesn't fit in Siege.. but it's more that he should have had either a completely new mold or a serious remold so that it would be really different... it's part of the "lazy" stuff from Hasbro that I didn't enjoy with Siege.

Though the name and personality were probably first inspired by the blue Diaclone version which may have been the plan for the original Bluestreak release.

I'm probably one of the few that doesnt hate that mold and actually really enjoyed it. Thought it was really fun to convert and I had the fire burst version that I paired with murder bee as SG Movie versions. That repaint just looks so zany and fun though

I don’t know the order of things, but Barricade as he is in Siege matches up with his current role in the new IDW comics.

I won’t have them in hand till I get home this evening, but from the pictures I’ve seen online I think team Megatronia is definitely the superior uses of the Victorion mold sets.

Hell, I’d say she might just be the best female combiner, but that’s more do to Orthia crippling herself right out the gate with the shitty Moonracer mold x4 so the only real contest is between Vicky and Megatronia.

I also added the Hasbro asia kids day red hotspot after this pic was taken. Still need a united grapple and henkei inferno to finish the set lol (maybe I’ll take an updated pic once that happens- a construction version would be super sweet too)

Often I'm not a big fan of black repaints because they seem an "easy" and "unimaginative" way of doing a "cool" redeco. When the typical black repaint gets changed up with a bit more creativity and visual interest, like for example MP Black Rodimus Prime, I appreciate it more. Before the era of so many black repaints, there was a Beasts Wars figure that is maybe questionably a "black" repaint. But I think it's pretty popular and I think something more "creative" like this would be great for doing other "Dark"/"Gray Scale" repaints: Fox Kids Transmetal Tarantulas.

Also a fun tidbit that amused me, I just recently saw on tfwiki(Is this info real? heh, "fun" at least), is the supposed names that were at one point planned for the Fox Kids repaints. The first wave could've been:
    -"Jungle Roar Cheetor"
    -"Live Wire Dinobot"
    -"Energon Surge Rhinox"
    -"Power Flight Waspinator"

And the second wave would've been:
    -"Mech-Tech Cheetor"
    -"Steel Force Tarantulas"

So a focus on "Steel Force Tarantulas" here:
