Yeah, at least Prime’s backpack is neat. Bumblebee’s backpack just looks like crap folded over more crap and I’m right behind him in thinking that's lazy engineering and looks horrible. As for Prime’s backpack, I couldn’t disagree more. I actually like how the backpack is engineered and fits together and I honestly like the look of MP-44’s back better than MP-10’s - it just squares off nicely and you don’t see any truck kibble.

I LOVE Jobby, but I think he just wanted to turn a minor nitpick into something major that the audience (who don’t like MP-44’s backpack) would enjoy and totally go overboard with it. People always want to find something to complain about!

And don’t even get me started on how people are modding his backpack and literally taking him apart. Like, good job, his back is now one cm shorter, but now he’s un-transformable unless you put him back together...and we all don’t like partsformers, so that’s ironic.

“Hey! That’s a cool Optimus Prime figure! Does he transform?

“No...not anymore. His backpack was a cm too big so I compromised what this figure was meant to do.”

“That’s too bad. Wait...why do you display him facing the wall?”

    “I have my reasons... #backlivesmatter”

    Generations...

    CJzJM2BJTrGRbZ+rlOIteg.jpg

Old and sturdy vs. new, show-accurate and more delicate.

I just swapped the old MP Convoy and Bumble for the new releases in my display cabinet, and I have to say the new ones definitely look *much* better than their old counterparts.
However, MP-10 and MP-21 are much better to play with. Transforming them back to alt mode for storage was easy and I never feared to break them or scratch the paint job.
One could potentially argue that the new releases are optimized for adult collectors who display while the old ones were optimized for adult collectors who play.

Nice picture. Definitely shows how far the engineering has come in a few short years.

Also, those last several Hasbro version MPs were Toys R Us exclusives. Rather than selling them as exclusives through WalMart after TRU shut down, Hasbro just sells them through Hasbro Pulse.

It seems too they’ve realized it’s simpler and more profitable to sell the TakaraTomy product with an overlay package than to put money into alternate tooling to meet US safety standards and alternate packag design/production. Whether it’s part of the “brand unification” or not, Hasbro’s current distribution of MPs to their markets finally doesn’t rely on an agreement with another retailer and offers the true product without alteration.

To be a little bit charitable to him i don't believe he hates prime's backpack as much as he let's on, i think he's projecting his criticism from previous figures with messy backs and most likely mp-45 which didn't release yet but probably wanted to find a way to rant about it.

on the topic of mp-45, i'd be more forgiving of the backpack if you could fit spike through the doors rather than splitting the car apart but since you can't it feels pointless.

on the topic of te prime, unlike jobby i much prefer the look of mp-44 however i also believe te gives you a much better bang for your buck

For every actor/artist, the trick is to "exaggerate" the character you want to project/render.

He be doing it OT! And it pays!

Also, compared to his 3P TE not Optimus, the difference from $ 144.99 really shows. Sound box, paint job, extra bling (figures, mobile artillery post, magnetic sheet on the trailer, Hb fees), packaging. The extra $150.++. That's what you paid for. Do I like it? Ouch, no buuuuuuuuuuuut, it's Convoy! If not for the knees............:deadhorse:  :lolol

The backpack on 45 has very little, if nothing to do with the opening doors in alt mode. It has more to do with the shape of the alt mode itself and limited options on where the top of the car can go in a cartoon-accurate robot at that scale.

45 wasn’t “compromised” in order to fit spike inside the alt mode. If that were the case, it would be possible to do so simply by opening the doors and putting him in. As it is, Spike barely fits and can only be seated on one side of the car (Carly can’t ride with him, which would have been a great cross-play feature if they were going to compromise Bumblebee’s design).

The doors are on a sliding hinge for transformation, which made it easy for the hinge to allow the doors to open.

i'd disagree, i just can't see the mini fig being included over a coincidence for the engineering

I didn’t mean it was all coincidence. The designers likely realized that Spike could fit in the alt mode given the proportions and space available. They probably did design around that as a feature. However, there is minimal space for Spike and if he wasn’t included that wouldn’t have changed the proportions of either mode.

I’ve been working on a post that breaks this down in more detail. Hopefully I’ll have time soon to finish it.

The only consideration they made for Spike riding is, the "spare tire" post isn't centered. Its situated more to the driver sides allowing for Spike to fit on the passenger side without having to take his legs off to fit.

NOOOO, the lower ratchet gave way in one of his knees. It's a an easy enough fix but still irksome enough to bump him down to second favorite. I was hoping this was a fluke production thing and not a wide spread problem. I was so gentle. I can guess this guy is more of display than play as others on this forum have put it.

Is there a ko version of mp-44 yet? I remember reading last year, many said within six months after release the kos would appear. I own a MP-44, but would buy an IT Prime, if it is on par on what was done for MP-36 Megatron.

    I wouldn't bother.

4 days on the Board. 9 posts. 3 in the last hour, MP44 here, MP45 (it's small, so should be cheap) and Unicron (it's too big).

    Hmmm... ignored.

Damn lots of shade toward Jobby. Dudes entitled to an opinion, and I've always considered his channel a satire one, so little nuggets of opinions sprinkled with over the top dramatics, but I don't know why everyone is taking him so seriously. Don't get me wrong I love my official Takara releases too, but dude is a 20 something year old kid, so I don't feel the need to crucify a jokester over a difference of opinion. Also lets be honest with ourselves. Some members in the collecting community sound an awful lot like the ones he was roasting.
