...ah, i see the confusion: in the dialog, hasbro employed "masterpiece" as a descriptive term, but not as titular adjective...

unicron is marketed as a wfc figure, not masterpiece. now if the designers see it as a mp figure then that is a different story, but no, its not marketed as one

With Devy they said it was the closest we'd get to a MP version, and that was part of the thought process. Clearly Raiden could change things now, but at the time UW/CW Devastator was their MP stand in.

Clearly MP scale is difficult, so Unicron won't get any bigger as it's not worth it. With that in mind I can't see a TF company using the term MP without meaning something similar to that standard, and akin to the Devy comments.

So I can see the corporate viewpoint being that this will fill that gap in MP collections, and MP Galvatron and Rodimus Prime coming out around the Unicron release would make total sense to help drive that sense of coherence. If they come out of course.

It's this notion that I was saying might have led to them not wanting to detract from the collector's desire to buy the MP output by throwing in a pair of 'substitutes' that might just scratch their TFTM itch. Why risk it?

I could be completely off the mark, but it'd make sense to not compete with yourself in any way, and offer a completely different type of figure altogether (i.e. scaled, with a ship).

I think they mean "Masterpiece" as in a fantastic toy of the highest quality rather than "The transformers Masterpiece toyline".

Honestly at this point MP just means scale.

Kinda hard to make that claim when it be of the toylines is specifically branded as masterpiece, and it’s even harder to make the claim that unicron is a masterpiece (as in part of the line and not a generic descriptor) because he is specifically branded as war for cybertron

it's not a factual claim, so no need to go one about individually labeled lines. It's a claim that at this point, I do not see Masterpieces in the masterpiece line. They have become a scale, while the figures themselves are becoming more and more mediocre to me and care less and less about impressive engineering and being solid figures.

It would be very awesome if hasbro makes a secret base mode for unicron. It could form into that hellish lava pit from the movie. And micro transformers could be chained up and thrown in. Ha ha ha ha. .....

Is this Haslab Unicron? I wonder if it can actually do that.

But it also brings up the same infuriating scale nonsense as Broadside.

We're seeing a grey prototype again? Odd. I hope they change the yellow for the same orange that the Takara 2010 version uses.

Yes it was a planned feature on Haslab Unicron at some point. They dropped it though, so the actual figure won't be able to do this.

You'll probably be able to get close to it, it's seemingly one of those "lay it on its back and move some stuff" titan alt modes.

Do you guys think this will fill up a potential MP release slot? I know winter time before CNY is TT’s wheelhouse, but I’m also aware that they like to give a couple months buffer when they drop a big time release ...

This isn't in the MP line and its a one time thing, so no, it will never hit the MP line or take up a slot in it.

At 12,000+ backers of a $575 toy, Hasbro took in, what, nearly $7 million for this project?

Pretty impressive funding stream for developing a toy figure, even one as big and complicated as this.

Hasbro: Totally wouldn't mind you throwing some of that money back our way in the way of bonuses and surprises. Feel free to spoil us. :)

They're not doing that, from their perspective they've made their money, no need to add incentives when it's already been sold.
