Wait, i just noticed Gravestone arms are white instead of light gray... umm, would have preferred light gray. Bah, still 2 more repaints left, right? Heh

 

Aren't they pearl white? A bit like Aegis v2? i.e. metallic rather than grey

 

I like that lighter arm colour, I bet it's pearlescent too like Trailbreaker v2.

They've finally embraced balls deep cartoon like Takara and it gives me hope they'll re-release Snapdragon and Apeface in a similar, correct, shade.





I know. Cartoon stills don't 100% prove a point but it does highlight its not completely inaccurate. I'm sure the toy version will be suitably grey.

If you look at my earlier bot mode pics, I didn't even realize you could pull the arms out! So yeah, I think you can leave the arms in and it will still bend:


So many Stunticons you'd think they were Insecticons:

22 down, 8 to go. Its cool how many options you have out there. Toon, Toy, G2, or IDW? Take your pick! Want something that will scale with the MP Autobots, they have something for that. If you want them to scale with seeker-sized Aerialbots, that's available too!

 

Looking at all 3 - Gravestone looks good from the front but the backpack is a waaay too big. I mean RK has it for a very good reason, and you can remove it with like 4 screws and 5 mins if you want, and then it's really streamlined, like DX9. You're stuck with XTB. But then XTB has so much going for it otherwise it's only something to point out because the competition is so good.

But...i think RK is now the 'least great' of them overall. He's way oversized, the lower legs and feet aren't accurate with the trailer parts showing and the grey colours. It's still a great figure and very well engineered etc but really comparing the three, it's last for me. It's why I sold mine. But i could easily have kept it, and i would have if Capone himself was needed to from Menasor or if i had room for an ALT mode display (and i didn't need to raise cash to pay for non nerd stuff!).

It's like the golden age of Stunticons, Motormaster in particular, and unless XTB's crumbles like the shoulders on their Dragstrip, all 3 companies are bringing their A games to their MP Motormasters!

Gravestone is going on a hiking trip with MP44 with that backpack. They seem to be packing a lot of supplies in there.

 

So I just got my Gravestone... and he appears to be missing his accessories? Did he come with anything? I don't even see in the packaging where they'd store his extra bits.

Edit: Never mind. Apparently I didn't have the presence of mind to check the back of the Styrofoam insert. A winnar is me.

They're kind of an off-white. Once you get them in hand they're not too garish.

I like this guy. Took me a hot minute to figure out how to get him apart while in truck mode. Despite having clear Badcube vibes, he's surprisingly intuitive and I managed to get him from truck to bot without instructions. One tabbed together, he's pretty solid and he screams "Motormaster" to me. The faux cab bits in his feet were kind of garish, but easily get subsumed once you get him all squared away.

My very minor criticisms are:

1) Accessories are a tight fit, tabwise.
2) Once you pull out his arms, he's got some ugly gaps in his upper arms in the back.
3) His ab crunch is kinda weak on my copy. Kinda floppy.

All of those are pretty forgivable in my opinion based on his solid feel and just overall fun vibe.

Some people don't like his backpack. It's not hardly as awful as some other figures, including Takara offerings. If anything, it's probably only a few cm "too big", not enough for me to kvetch over.

Anyways, another nice XTB release in keeping with a lot of his teammates.

It looks like the new production version of Gravestone no longer has those tabs in the shin? Unless there's some kind of swappable piece there, it looks like it's simply a sculpted part there now?

Should be easy enough to paint that part, especially if you are going to paint the other translucent shin and knee pieces to maintain some kind of consistency like I will (pretty basic photoshop but you get the idea):

 

Looks like the tabs in the shins are on a revolving panel. So yeah, just needs paint.

 

The tabs actually swivel. As in, they flip out of the way and flip back when you TF him into truck mode to secure the legs. It's actually pretty clever, provided the plastic nubs that hold the swivel in place don't flake apart.

 

Excellent. So should be easy enough to paint one side?
And of course, I'll be fixing the translucent on knees, shins and chest, as well as doing the windows in truck mode. A nice touch of cell-shading goes a long way. Something like this will be the aim, though I may have overdone it a little here:

I'd love to paint it but I've never tried it and i wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that i can screw up something so expensive  . I'll hold a tiny hope of toyhax doing sets of cell shaded windows for all of them once everything is out, it looks pretty neat

 

Weird, XTB in my memory use to be very smart in transformation and faithful to G1 material, how come this time Gravestone has such a big backpack?

 

Probably related to them want to separate the trailer out of the bot so only cab , now instead of the cab transform into his leg , now the alt mode cab tuck into his back and his leg is faux part?
