As a rule, I don't take most news outlets at face value. Their definition of "research" is parroting back the first search result that fits their narrative and adding no value themselves. Thus, "articles" end up looking like this: When I said DVD, what I _meant_ was home video, that includes both VHS and BluRay. I'm sure you knew that but the article is all over the place. The article using a graph of _only_ DVD sales to show physical media failing against streaming is misleading. Seriously, why is a chart from 1996 to 2018 labeled "1983 to 2018?" The article sort of glosses over the artificial bump from the format switch. It didn't note at all that BluRay (and HD-DVD) backwards compatibility severely reduced its effect the second time around. If you remove the format bump (which to be fair would be imprecise), the fall isn't so pronounced. Speaking of HD-DVD, probably nobody factored in how that fight affected the adoption of BluRay. I think comparing a 67% decrease to a 1231% increase is a little misleading with people's (mis)understanding of percentages. In absolute terms, physical media fell less than streaming rose. Fortunately, too, because in a zero-sum market, DVD really would be dead. Do the streaming figures count the entire Amazon Prime subscription price? It started as a shipping plan after all. Some people still use it that way too. There's no mention of DVD prices completely crashing. I could buy 10 DVDs every month and still spend more on Netflix. Or inflation. It's the same problem as comparing ticket sales across 40 years except in reverse. Streaming _was_ nominally cheaper during the years after the banks ruined the economy. It's gotten more expensive and so has its delivery pipeline (internet access). My opinion is that it was always a short-term savings and will be revealed as such in the next recession. The real comparison to watch is streaming versus cable/satellite. Those "gains" against physical media could be recouping losses from cord cutting. Yes, physical media would still be slumping but the why could be entirely different. There also wasn't a hint of the planned obsolescence built into smart TVs. Apps are lucky to see 3-4 years of support in most cases. We're not far enough into the app revolution to see perfectly functional devices falling out of support in real volume...yet. It blows my mind the churn for its own sake that people put up with. Also I tend to discount when pundits try to spin something as a conscious choice made by young people. Many times, young people are merely playing the hand they've been dealt. The gig economy, not owning a car, skyrocketing college debt, etc. I'm sure most of them want steady jobs, freedom of movement, and to be done paying school loans before they retire (or die). At the end of the day, streaming vs physical media is really rental vs ownership. And some people are like that. My college roommate was the same way. We still got along. Back to Voltron...I just think shows that don't hit home video in a timely fashion (or ever) are missing out on a key tool that would push some of them into broader pop culture. We wouldn't even be talking about Voltron today if the original had been so poorly marketed and distributed.
Well I loved LD and pretty much everything y'all thought was bad I thought was clever and entertaining, maybe its bcuz I watch way to many cartoons/anime in general, there were some really stupid episodes like the Coran gets the Altean reverse aging episode but those to me were far and few in between. As for streaming vs cable vs physical. I havent had cable in 10+ yrs and the only thing I miss is Toonami/Adult Swim when they had they're anime on, beyond that Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Funimation give me everything I need (mostly Toonami is screwing a few shows up for me with their dub license hold) and I will only watch dub no sub except for Bleach and DBS. My daughter watches all kinds of cartoons on the streaming and shes now 12, however the only toys she deals with or tolerates is Legos
Thanks! I have the Bandai 1/750 scale lighted refit Enterprise that I still need to build but its pre-painted so not as much work, lol.

Man, I thought LD was really well done, I didn’t like the ending, but very few shows stick the landing. Voltron was just a monster of the week show (wish I could get my hands on KOB), at least LD flushed out a story. I cut cable, I only miss ESPN. But I have found myself buying a lot of DVDs lately. Streaming is great, but if it isn’t original content there is no guarantee it will always be there. And because streaming is all the rage a lot of things on digital video aren’t even available to buy, where as I still can find the physical media. Case in point Voltron and He-man were on Netflix and now they are gone. So I just bought the dvd collections.
Same. Really enjoyed LD. Wish I could purchase on bluray. For whatever reason you can buy season 1 and 2 on DVD. I'm really glad I picked up TF Prime on bluray [all seasons + movie]
I liked the ending of LD, what I didnt like that there were a few plot threads left hanging. The one that annoyed me the most was between Keith and Acxa, the latter disappearing after a point until the epilogue of the final episode.
My wife got me this for Christmas. Was hoping for SoC VV, but this is pretty neat in it's own right. She tells me she was quite the LEGO builder back in the day, so this will be something fun we can build together. Now we just need to make time for this guy. I'll post pics by the end of this year. I never knew the backstory to LEGO Voltron. It was pretty neat to read how one man's idea turned into to a challenging project, with all the engineering obstacles they faced. And they also tell about the story of anime Voltron, which is nice. It brings back memories of seeing it on TV for the first time and being blown away. No cartoon had affected me that way since StarBlazers.
I never got the giant Mattel Voltron with the pilot figures... I would love for someone to do some classic pilot figures, or maybe some of the villain characters. Maybe Super 7 could do a Re-Action line? Not sure what other company would take it on? I would be interested in Classic and the new Netflix versions...
I'd accept 3.75" with at least the articulation of Mattel's Pilots but I'd prefer 6" ML style, def no reaction style those are so good awful looking figures
I agree, but I'm trying to think of companies that would take it on, Super 7 and Boss Fight maybe... I don't think any major company would because it is not a mass retail thing, at least it appears that way. I'm surprised a company like Bandai hasn't bothered?
You say that like one exists, but all we have are (admittedly excellent) high priced, high-end versions, or gigantic ones that are unwieldy and (in the case of Playmates and Mattel) shit. The Super Minipla would be perfect if it wasn't so absurdly cheaty and compromised. Everyone talks about pilots and villains yet the robot itself is still relegated to just one "good" version in existence. Voltron's like the simplest, easiest design ever and yet 90% of the toys of it suck.
Ah ok now I understand what your looking for, a bit of explanation goes along way and that's def an opinion on the 90%. Of my Voltron collection only 2 are crappy in some shape form or fashion, the rest are pretty freaking awesome. Sounds like you would've went for an 8in diecast classic had playmates done that like they did for LD unless I'm not understanding what you're looking for
