Tinder is material that can make fire. Wikipedia is a good friend.

The fast food joke though sounds lame.

One episode in and I am enjoying it. The except for the final scene.

It’s an dating app- you swipe right if you like someone or left if you don’t. If you both swipe right on each other you match and can start messaging one another.

This was a letdown. A very big letdown. First episode was going in the right direction, but the second threw it out the window and the third burned it to ash. It definitely had its moments, sure, but the - I'll just say 'main chick' so as not to spoil anything - was unbearably fucking bad. Her in & out accents... her annoying way of saying everything... her terrible "comedy" and one-liners - every time she said a line, I was completely taken right out of the show. The plot & scenario of the second episode was so astonishingly stupid - gee, who ever could the bad guy be? :rolleyes2  - that it damn near felt like a parody, and the third episode was so beyond eye roll silly that I half expected the actors to break the fourth wall and look at the camera whenever there was a zinger.

I'm actually angry at what a colossal waste of time this ended up being after looking forward to it for so long. Damn shame.

BBC won't let anything air unless it checks certain PC boxes. So all the writers down there are writing along those lines and it's destroying many shows. America isn't doing much better lately. Too many people are putting PC pandering over good storytelling. It's destroying many genre Tv shows and movies. We may have another year or two of this crap till the companies finally lose enough money and make a major course correction.

Fair enough, but none of that is what hurt this show. Terrible writing, overly contrived 'cleverness' and some god awful casting choices is what did it.

It does though. The BBC's rules aren't simply 'don't be racist or sexist or whatever.' The rules are so over the top that any of the great shows that used to air on British telly would be seen as problematic. As a result, even if you get great writers on board, it doesn't matter because they have to submit it to internal reviewers who insist on it being as safe and bland as possible.

Ah well admittedly I didn't watch it based on rumors I heard. Terrible writing is killing everything these days, so I'm not bothering to watch a lot of things unless they get good reviews first. I'm tired of feeling like I'm waisting my time.

? Last one? I thought it was one movie?

It sounds like Dracula 2000 all over again though.

It’s a 3 part series similar to Sherlock a format- 1 hour 30 mins per episode.

Exactly what I was expecting after Moffat's tenure as Doctor Who showrunner. Even Sherlock suffered from this at points, although nowhere near as bad. And the exact reason I never got excited for this. It's a shame because Moffat is a great writer when he's not also in charge.

    Agreed.

There were a lot of things in this show that pissed me off, but this post would probably get deleted if I talk about it.

What I will mention is the Black and Asian nuns in 18th century eastern Europe? Really?

Shit like that completely takes me out of the story because it makes absolutely no sense. There was plenty of diversity in the third episode. Not sure why the had to force it in the first two episodes as well.

I don't disagree with any of this, and DO agree that it is / can be a problem. Hell, I rant about forced anything as much as anyone. More so, even. It still doesn't change that THAT is not what the problem was with this particular series. Yeah, of course, there were several "give me a fucking break" choices made with - let's just say certain aspects - but they really are just incidentals compared to the much bigger problems that killed it: those being the overall writing & episodic plots, and some of the casting & acting. Period.

For comparison, as far as I'm concerned, if people can handle 99% of every chick in a period piece movie inexplicably having tight model bodies, no leg or armpit hair, gorgeous skin, perfect pearl white teeth, etc. and/or everyone from a foreign country always speaking English, then I'm sure they can also handle some different colors/races/genders being added into the mix of characters. And if they can't, well then they clearly have a bigger issue than so-called "accuracy". I mean, as much as I think Lucy should always be a pale white red head, I handled her being an dark haired Tessa Thompson clone just fine because THAT wasn't the issue with her character sucking so bad - it was the terrible way she was wrote. Or as much as I eye rolled about the anything-but-subtle interracial gay couple that got planted in that was in no way believable, I handled it because that episode was so bad because of literally every OTHER thing that went on with the brutally lame plot. That's what I mean by incidentals. Comparatively speaking, they were the least of this show's problems.

Can't speak to Doctor Who simply because I don't watch it to know any different, but agree with you on all the other points here.

That was another aspect that pissed me off, but I didn't want to mention it.

But yeah, the whole Lucy thing went way off the rails.

Overall, I enjoyed the first episode. The second not so much. The third? WTF
