I'd actually like to thank everyone for sharing their stories, as it's helping me get an idea of what never to do with my toys and figures, including:
showing collection to anyone, leaving home with figures, not being home when the mail comes in, having family over, having pets, leaving boxes where water can collect, and living where it storms.

My own stories amount to losing an optimal optimus in the moving bins, selling other figures in yard sales, and at one time selling all of my original generation beyblades in one lot. Nothing so tragic as being betrayed by family or getting assaulted by friends, but I still kick myself over the beyblades.

I remember another one! I ended up having 2 zombie Prime Cliffjumpers. One day I sold one on eBay forgetting I had previously sold one on eBay... I meant to keep it.
I originally bought one forgetting I previously bought one & then ended up selling both off because of dad brain.

I don't really have any TF related ones. But my dad accidentally ran over my MOTU Moss Man with the lawn mower (he just blended in too well...). I remember him apologetically handing me a chopped up pile of body parts...(even though I was really at fault for having left him out there...)

The Shogun Warriors Rodan I got as a birthday gift. Never knew how I lost it, but I busted the claws and one of the wings by having the rubber bands around them wrapped too tight. Probably got tossed in the trash when we moved.

I remember my first time seeing the original trilogy star wars films was during a tv marathon and all i wanted after that was to have a lego x-wing. For my 5th birthday i was lucky enough to get set# 6212 from 2009 and my Dad spent all night building it for me and after seeing it in the morning all i could think of at school was getting home and playing with it. I finally got home and picked up the set to show my friend but it was too heavy and i ended up dropping it and we both watched the pieces fly everywhere across my kitchen and it never got rebuilt l.=( It was heartbreaking watching the set i wanted for so crumble in front of me and i still hope to one day get it again so i can build it and display it safely somewhere.

Probably when I sold all of my remaining G1 figures, including Metroplex, Jetfire, and Optimus Prime, at a garage sale when I was in middle school. I didn't realize it when I actually sold them, but their absence later started to get to me and I really regretted it.

I didn't get another one until I started working at Kmart while I was in high school. I found and bought G2 Sideswipe after my shift one day. He was the only TF that I had for years until RID '01 came along while I was attending university. Everything snowballed after I found the RID '01 Car Brothers, and the Decepticon members of Ruination.

So you could say that this story has a happy ending. :D

Mine would have to be me loosing back in the 80's my Powermaster figure Hi-Q shortly after getting Powermaster Optimus Prime from Children's Palace. A few weeks after getting it it disappeared and my parents and I looked high and low for it and were never able to find it. Fast forward 10 to 13 years later and a very nice guy who worked at Eide's Comic Book store in Pittsburgh PA. went home and gave me his the next day after my parents buying a vintage G1 Megatron he ad there with all the accessories. I was so happy he gave me his.:D  The other one being me taking my very first Transformer my parents got me for Christmas when I was 3 back in 1987 to a Friendly's restaurant in Boardman Ohio down the road from where I live and leaving his head on the table accidentally and not realizing it until my mother, grandmother and I went back for it about 10 minutes or so later and it was gone.:(  Still never did get around to getting another. Maybe someday I will find the head itself for sale on ebay or just get a KO of the whole figure.

I sold this guy I know a SDCC Lobo loose for 65. The guy, I met him like 1 year and a half ago. However I did notice that (he is 40+ y/o, you would think a person at that age is mature enough, but I was wrong) he started to brag around the fact that I sold him the figure for 40 (yes, he is one of these persons that love to say they get better deals than anybody in the globe).

And to add more to the matter, he is suddenly now telling everybody around that SDCC Lobo is a better figure than the multiverse baf, not before mocking people because he has the SDCC one.

So I regret selling that figure to this douchbag and wont sell him anything else in the future. Did I say that he has never spent more than 100 usd on a figure and chances are he would own bupkis if I dont sell him my Lobo?

    (Suddenly has flashbacks)
Man, I lost a Lego space shuttle that way one Christmas. I was hauling it inside from the van on a visit to the grandparents when I tripped and it went flying. Never could complete it after not finding all the pieces.

AND REMEMBERING THAT REMINDED ME OF THE TIME MY OLDER SISTER (and her friends) TORE APART MY MAILAWAY STAR WARS LEGO SETS (WITHOUT TELLING ME).

(Adds "having siblings" to list of things to avoid when collecting)

I don't think I ever lost whole figures when I was a kid. But I did loose random parts or broke figures.

My most devastating break was probably when my Optimus Prime's leg snapped off. And the timing of this was bad as it was after TF the movie came out. So Optimus was dead in the show and in my toy box. This was during series 3 and Optimus had been discontinued.

When I was little me and my brothers had tons of beast wars toys and a few other transformers. After a while they both moved on to other things but I always kept our transformers. Until one day I came home from school and my mom and brothers had decided to throw them all out including mine. The only 2 that survived the purge were armada wheeljack and demolisher.

Didnt lose my toy, but my G1 Optimus Prime was broken because I didnt share with my brother...

G1 OP was my “big” birthday gift when I turned 6. I was so enthralled with that figure. I remember how excited I was to unwrap it and see the G1 packaging. Opening it for the first time with the styrofoam was such a memorable moment. Optimus Prime instantly became my favorite toy.

3 Days after getting him, I came into my room from playing outside. There was my older brother (he would have been 8) on my bed playing with him. Of course I couldnt possibly share my toy and let him have a turn, so I did what any sensible 6 year old would do... I grabbed Optimus by the arm and yelled at my big brother that it was my toy and he couldnt play with it!

Im sure by now, all of you have concluded what happened... Optimus’ arm broke off. There were a few tugs back and forth between my brother and I and his position was he just wanted a short turn with it and I hadnt been using it. He wasnt going to damage it.

i was devastated and broken hearted. My brother still feels bad about to this day.

For years I played with that Optimus with only one arm. I kept the broken arm so the truck mode was still complete.

I learned a valuable lesson that day, but It came at a great cost.

Its one of the defining moments of my childhood.

I lost G1 1986 Galvatron's orange cannon in my parents' garage. When they moved house we finally found it and it successfully made the trip to the new house, where it promptly got lost again.

I'm sure we'll find it again if they move again, but still....

    =====

Speaking of which, I was a beneficiary of "Let's see if G1 Seaspray can float!" when I randomly found it intact in front of my parents' house in the gutter. Never had to pay for that figure.

G1 Optimus Prime is the architect of a couple of traumatic losses.

First, when I lost the first fist. My hero was incomplete from that point forward, and it directly led to my dislike of partsforming.

Later (this will sound familiar), handless yet still noble Optimus lost his leg. I'd had him for a while, so the G1 toy was no longer available. Later, I heard that a new Optimus was being released, called Power Master, and thought I could finally replace my fallen Prime. But, then I saw Power Master Optimus Prime, and he was nothing like the toy I wanted.

Eventually, I got Ultra Magnus, quickly lost interest in the armor, and had a complete "ghost" of Optimus Prime.

After that, I lost my G1 Bumblebee, and tried to replace him with Goldbug (because, hey, that's what happened in the narrative), but Goldbug was a Throttle it, and I was too young to realize how cool those barely Transformers were.

Later in life, I had a HftD Breacher and a Shattered Glass Classics Prime chewed up by puppies. Two separate bots, two separate dogs, two separate times. The were both stored in bins with tops, but one dog managed to get the lid off and selected his meal, the other knocked a bin over and I was lucky to only lose the one bot.

The family member owners of those dogs offered to pay for them, but by that point, both had gotten ridiculously expensive. It was a combo mix of, "I can't ask them to pay that much," and, "I don't want to tell them how much I spent on toys."

    The pain remains.
