I think this chart captures the definitive answer to “will Earthrise Megatron’s alt mode be a gun?”

 

You know, in all of this speculation, we've forgotten a Megatron that *technically* has an Earth altmode, and looks G1 enough to fit Earthrise's bill:

Animated Megatron.

Revisit the VTOL gunship idea. Animated Megs also has more hand-held weapons than most Megatrons, so he'd work with the COMBAT system. Would work as a Voyager pretty easily.

And hey... isn't there supposed to be some kind of Super Megatron figure in the works? Well, Animated Megatron is an homage to him to start with, so that would make Takara's work a little easier.

So, sorta take that design, make it more stylized in the traditional "G1" style with some elements of his evergreen design... You might be on to something here.

 

I do want to say at least siege star scream has a different alt mode so it can work with earth rise at least for me I dunno what er megs will be so I can't say for sure

I’d love a WW1 Megs. It would be a great change from the usual H-tank formula.

 

I'll certainly buy another Tank Megatron in fact if I recall Tank Megatron existing 3 times recently CW, TR, Siege. I bought the CW and Siege ones, and would most certainly buy an Earth based Megatron.

(Earthrise Voyager Energon Megatron)
This could be Energon Megatron which has two important repaints Galvatron, SG Megatron. Part of me wants this version because of the possibility of SG Megatron...but how do you capture-

-In the Voyager range? Omit the tank?...the translucent Shoulder cannons? I think for this very reason it won't be Energon Megatron, but G2 green Megatron. Why you ask? Because they've driven all around green tank Megatron but somehow avoided it...until now I believe.

Supporting Evidence:

CW repaint / remold
Bizarrely omits a green repaint for a poor remold to Armada Megatron. Green G2 would have been much more fitting considering the heft and altmode.


TR exclusive repaint
This is a nice Combat Hero Megatron repaint and also would have looked nice in G2 Green.



Siege Exclusive Repaint / Remold
This was from left field a repaint of an unreleased Combat Hero Megatron in a wildly devisive color scheme that only Hardcore collectors would be familiar with. I'd bet a G2 green repaint would have sold more units. Interestingly it has Miner Megatron's head...



So literally any repaint of Tank Megatrons except what I consider his most iconic (not including his original) color scheme.

 

Instead of yellow should have been “Blaze Orange”  

 

I've always thought this deco could've been repurposed as a G1 Impactor toy.

I have no idea what any of that meant, but I think I'll assume it means you're hoping they don't retool Cliffjumper into a Throttlebot because they'd be the wrong height.

 

Agreed. I kind of suspected that Hasbro had been tap-dancing around the green G2 Megatron with the releases of tank Megatrons in the past, but threading the Prime Wars and WFC Megatrons in a straight line makes it even more obvious than I initially thought. It definitely feels like Hasbro is building up to his release in Generations. If Earth Megatron is him, I’m going to be so happy. I’ve wanted an updated green G2 Megatron for years.

 

I kind of wished megatron would have gotten the leader treatment. Not everyone is a fan of a voyager with a leader pricepoint and I find it a bit of a stretch as well with Shockwave and Astrotrain but I think a Megatron with better articulation, paint apps and accessories is worth it.

The CW chrome of megs was really great for me so hopefully they go with that and try to reduce the battle damage a bit

 

Megatron has to be vastly different for him to replace Siege Megs. I hope he's a jet or something, because if he's another tank, I'm not getting him, even if he has far better paint and articulation. I'm kinda getting annoyed by hastak replacing a character so quickly thing, it's just turned into me over thinking "should I wait for next year?".
