I just don't get it. Hasbro had the previously comparable figures and at a $35 price point. Many of those hit clearance. Hasbro then decides to increase the price by almost 50%? $50 USD is about $65 CAD, which means it'll probably cost $70+ CAD. That's baffling for a toy that small.

Maybe it's part of a plan to optimize revenue. Start at $50, with the knowledge that you plan to drop the price later on. Anyone paying $50 is essentially paying a pre-sale price.

I know. Such low production that they shelf warm.

Don't think anyone is asking then to be free, either.

The scuffs on the wings and nose are unacceptable at any price, especially when the darker dye used will end up showing those scuffs so prominently. Astrotrain is one of the few G1 figures I actually still have, and my 35-year-old sample is in better shape than this new one; that's no good when the new one is a premium item with a premium price.

This is my biggest pet peeve with this line and the price points. The QC is atrocious. Devy had multiple issues. The minibots had issues. The cassettes (rumble and frenzy) had issues.

Granted Prime was great, but he was a new mold. SS and Hotrod were good, but they have about 3 moving parts each all hard to fuck up. Don't know about Soundwave as I've yet to open my clearance buy.

That's just too many for me to even think about forking over $50 for a low tier figure like Astrotrain.

I have a secondhand Astrotrain thats in lousy shape that cost me $15 a few years ago. The toy isnt fun enough for me to shell out $60 to get a pristine one. I'd rather spend that on the new Siege leader.

Crappy line with crappy price points with low demand. Walmart would be better served stocking battlemasters and basics.

I dont know if 1000+ but maybe a 100+.....and now that we are on it and for the record, my vintage Astrotrain had very loose legs.

Well, not saying that's definitely the plan here, but that is really how just about everything else in the world is priced at retail. I mean stuff like a stove or a mattress are never expected to sell at full price and are literally given a MSRP that is priced for the sale, so I'm not sure why people think it's so crazy that if these don't sell at $50, Wal-Mart and Hasbro will be perfectly happy to clear them out down the road for $30 or $35.

Maybe he meant sealed and graded? Because someone would try to sell one like that for $1000.

Would you then say that Hasbro is producing these at the same production level as their modern transformers toy lines?.... the ones you can find at all the brick and mortar stores, including off the beaten path drug stores?

Or do you think they may have dialed the numbers back to create a small niche amount of collectible retro products that would appeal to a small amount of adult toy collectors....therefor having to increase the price in order to compensate for decreased revenue from a low interest product....compared to a toy that appeals to hundreds of thousands (or millions) of 5-10 year olds?

Also, have all the reissues shelf warmed? If so....seems like there’s a lot of collectors out there missing a lot of the reissues in their collection that they want....why would that be?

Because, you know, the prices are just a taaaaad too high.

At least, that's the general consensus of the forum.

    We've come full circle.

Nah, it’s not the general consensus....it’s just a small percentage of hobbyists on the internet (of which, just about every figure that comes out is said to be, “to high of a price”.

The fact is, most people are willing to pay full price...which is why the shelves are empty of most of the current releases...and eBay is getting 25%-50% more.

Still, for the insistent cheapskates....there’s always hand sculpting or even better, 3D printing....have you considered making your own from scratch? It’ll probably cost more....and require 100s of hours of work....but think of all the satisfaction you’ll get putting in the sweat equity “sticking it to the greedy corporate man!” :D

    Yup! X Infinity!

The business here by Hb/Takara is to make profit. I'd accept a high price product that DOES NOT scrimp on materials or quality.

That idjit move Hb did was release vintage G1 Bw and At in those weird colors. WTFrak were they thinking?

Shelves are empty, yet current releases are also shelf-warming and be a being put on clearance.

As for eBay, definitely not a great indicator,. especially if they just again, "shelf-warm" on eBay.

Hyperbole much? Your extreme view is ridiculous, especially considering that these figures aren't really worth it to them to pay such a price.

The entire argument of "you do it better or shut up!" isn't conducive to what a discussion forum is about.

You call it complaining, whining, whatever. But, at the end of the day, I'm sure there's something you think is overpriced.

As a discussion forum, people are more than allowed to discuss prices,.even if it "doesn't do anything."

Though, Hasbro and several 3Ps do read these forums. Change is possible.

Or, we could just not discuss anything with contrasting views and sit around just spamming the like button for the same perspective ad nauseum.

Honestly never thought I would see a variation of the “If you don’t like the movie, why don’t you make your own?” argument in a freakin’ toy thread. Also lol at the “insistent cheapskates”. Like, I’m sorry that there are folks who don’t want to spend $50 on such a tiny ass toy?

It’s weird how just about everyone here were losing their shit over the G1 Optimus reissue being $50 just a few months ago. Now, if someone thinks $50 is too pricey for this figure, they’re “cheapskates”.

The elitist and “Oh you’re just being a cheapskate for not wanting to spend your hard earned money on a toy” attitudes that some folks have in this fandom is simply beyond the pale and ridiculous.
