I liked it. I was expecting something more clever or subversive somehow but this one was totally straight and I was fine with it. I guess I spent the whole time waiting for some kind of point or referendum on the genre to emerge but it never came.

I feel like they overplayed what we knew way too quick because there wasn't another major revelation after the events in the attic (?) until like the last thirty minutes. Would have preferred more time in the head of Benoit.

But it was pretty people being shot pretty for a few hours and was intermittently funny. I also have to eat crow a little bit because it seems to be doing well and the packed auditorium I was in really ate it up

Huh, so weirdly named south american lady (someone told me her name basically means "Anne of weapons") is playing with Craig in this, AND also in the next Bond movie? She seems to be coming up in the world.

Sorry you gotta use less abbreviations with a non-US poster... I know K-9 stands for dog but what is K6? And CO? Carbon-monoxide?

Funny how you guys seem to care more about my hair than the quality of my content. If that is all it takes to annoy you, damn, I should have done that years ago. :lol

I don’t really care about the hair, I was just making a joke about the direction of the thread. The only movie reviews I watch on yt are hitb and yms, and that's less to do with wanting an unbiased review as something to play in the background as I clean or play a game.

I'm filled with regret for the post starting it all. The thread off the rails...

I went to see this today. All of the political stuff really ruined it for me. I liked just about everything else. Why couldn't the story be told without all that political nonsense?

Do you mean the political conversation they were having at the table? If so, what's the big deal? Also, it was there to further the nurse's moral dilemma.

It wasn't the conversation so much as that being the whole undertone (felt very overt to me) of the movie. It couldn't just be a murder mystery.

The movie was born of his experience with Star Wars fans sending hate mail and tweets to him and Kelly (real name Loan) Tran. To be fair, it's his story, it's his universe that he crafted. He's been polarizing before, this should be no exception. I guess the best way I can put it is, this is his house, you're a guest in it and he has the right to get political with it. If he had done it in Star Wars or some other property he had been hired to work in then I would say your argument is valid, but here? It's his work, he's allowed to say what he wants. If people disagree, that's their right, but then I'd have to think they're feeling like they're the target of the political statements in the movie in which case that's a personal issue one's allowed to take to heart, but he's also allowed to say and feel as he does.

Personally, I don't feel it detracted from the film. Did every bit of it stick the landing? Probably not, but I laughed anyway. Aside from that, however, he crafted an excellent film with a solid mystery. I hope Detective Blanc makes a return to theaters sometime in the future.

The accent was one of the best parts. He sells it with such charm and so much hilarity.
I hope the dinner would be as good, considering it costs more to attend. This movie left me with a HUGE grin on my face. I loved it.

What a delightful movie. I miss well-constructed mysteries like this. They give you just enough to piece things together, then still surprise you along the way.

It was both a major theme of the movie and even relevant to the plot at certain points.

I guess they should have had a trigger warning on the movie poster.

I didn't get triggered or upset about it. And yes, people can make whatever they like as far as films. I'm just stating what I didn't like about it. That's all.

Well, it directly tied into the characterization of two major characters and how they behaved towards the main character. In other words, that content, just as with all other content, was included in this movie for a specific purpose towards telling the story.
