He won't be directing another Transformers after TLK. That's for sure

He's producing tons of stuff. He's currently working on content for Amazon, including the Jack Ryan series, as well as a sequel to "A Quiet Place". Remember, he was a producer for the Bumblebee movie as well, so as far as Paramount is concerned, he's batting pretty well (all have been successful except TLK). His production company seems to be in full swing. It's probably not what you wanted to hear, but he's doing quite well right now.

I think Hasbro would beg to differ. Transformers was floundering and on life support as a brand, then the whispers started floating around of a live action movie, followed by the leaked production art and trailers, and by the time the 2007 movie released, Transformers was again one of the few non-Disney tentpole franchises. It brought in millions of millennials who never paid attention to the brand before as well as bringing back the "grown ups" who had the toys as kids. The toys went from the clearance rack to the endcap displays. Burger king toys, video games, and multiple cartoons aimed at many age groups. Michael Bay did for transformers what Robert Downey Jr did for Marvel.

    Yup.
Quite frankly, he saved the franchise. Look how all the other Hasbro properties have fared at the movies. GI Joe still can't recover despite having (arguably) the biggest action star in The Rock leading the franchise. GI Joe was on equal footing with TFs in the 80s. Now it's TF up here and everyone else down there.
And in all honesty I think Bay would've done a better job with GI Joe than TFs. I mean it's basically the Joe's teaming up with the Autobots in the movies.

He chose to make the movies, so it doesn't really make much sense to say the franchise killed his career if he willingly took on the projects.

If by "kill his career" you meant "make him about $250 million richer," then yes.

    I hope the same, too!

I know some people who work either as actors or as production guys, and what I think many people don't realize is that there are happy mediums between struggling to be in the background of a film or show and being some big shot whose name is always in the news. Some actors and people in production don't want to be famous. They just want to do a job they love and support themselves and their families, and if they're making well into six figures annually, that's fantastic for them.

Happy New Year, and a belated Merry Christmas!
