I remember when it would snow most of the winter here in Ohio. You could go sledding for a week straight before the snow finally melted. Not anymore. Today it's gonna be 60 degrees.
It's snowed a little bit this year. For the most part, it's been pretty mild. Maybe three inches of snow this year in my town? Which isn't normal by any means.
I hate snow so I'm glad its been mostly snowless this year. If I didn't own a house, had a job here and all my friends are around, I'd pack up and move to Arizona.
While I liked having everything covered in a thick layer of snow on Christmas, like we used to have in my childhood, I don't like cold. One year it was even 18° warm shortly before Christmas and I wouldn't mind having it all year warm. I might be the only one who's always looking forward to the heat of summer. I also don't like having to wear jackets or warm clothes. Like ten years ago we had 3 years in a row -17° in winter, I don't want to leave the house at these temperatures. Anything below 15 is just too cold for being comfortable. So I welcome snow less winters.
I like cold. I take cold pretty well. The more snow the merrier. I don't know anyone else with this attitude, though.
We had one light snowfall around Thanksgiving, but it's been warm since then. I believe we actually set a record on Christmas. I hate snow and ice so I'm having a great winter so far. Doubt it will last, though.
Around Seattle we sing "I'm Dreaming of a WARM Christmas." Downside is, without snow we may not get enough of a good hard freeze to kill the mosquitoes and such.
My wife and I were just discussing how unusual the weather has been so far this Winter. Here in Virginia, we're just far enough south that we don't typically get the extremely frigid days. However, we're also far enough north that we still get some decent snowfalls a few times each year. So far, we have had a dusting of snow and temperatures haven't been lower than 20 degrees. It's probably been 45 degrees on average with the last week getting into the 60's. I'm not hoping for a ton of snow or anything. It makes getting to work a giant pain in the ass. But this extremely mild weather has been... Weird. It just feels wrong.
I live in Phoenix so we never get snow to begin with. But it is so cold lately. we are currently at 55F Normal is 66 F Record is 79 F
We had one heavy dusting in November where they closed school but not much else, we’ve had lot if cold days but whenever we get any kind of precipitation it’s always to warm for snow.Kind if getting nervous about that big climate change
For someone who grow up in Malaysia (Which is a south east Asia country that has a hot, rainy climate entire year), I actually never see natural snow fall even once in my life so far.
The temperatures you guys are talking in make no sense to the rest of the world. @YellowCorvette Ha! Yes, I’ve had many friends in Vancouver who had never seen snow before. Lots of interesting questions I remember, like: “Does it all fall at once?”, “Is it safe to be outside when it’s snowing?”, “What happens to it later?” My wife also had never seen snow until we traveled together back to eastern Canada for Christmas a bunch of years back. I wanted her to really see the snow! And there was almost a meter of it on the ground that year. Made a snowman, went cross-country skiing, coasting (sledding)... all the good snow stuff. I live in a sub-tropical climate now and really miss snowy winters. I grew up in eastern Canada where there’s a bit too much snow some winters (but only when you’re an adult)! After moving to Vancouver I felt it was just about right, just a little bit each year. Then I moved to Beijing for many years where the summers are too hot and the winters are colllllld, but I liked the snow there again too. Now in Taiwan, the ‘winters’ are not that cold but there is no heating inside, so I’m colder more often in winters here than anywhere else! It’s often hard to get warm when businesses don’t have heat, and a scooter is the main mode of transportation. I wind up boxed in a room at home with the block heater on a lot. 14°C is too cold to sit in the living room; and in the summers 40°C is too hot to sit in the living room... so a person winds up boxed up in a room with the AC on a lot during the summer. I guess what I’m saying is I miss moderate summers, and central heating + snow in the winters.
I know right? When I read about 60° it sounds like a sauna and reading about 95° sounds like everyone should be dead and everything starting to burst up in flames
I'm having a snowless winter. I'm mainly in the south and everyone freaks out at snow or a tiny bit of snow flakes. So having a snowy Christmas just won't happen here. So in Indiana,....yes i used to live there and loved snow and a white Christmas.
My winter has been mostly snowless, just a dusting here or there. Personally, I don't mind snow, and I actually enjoy shoveling. But I have a brother in a wheelchair, and when he still lived with me snow SUCKED. If a path has just a little bit that was not shoveled, or if the path was too narrow, getting him through was a nightmare. So I will take cold over snow any day.
