Got this today. My personal figure of the year.

 

It's weird for me and I don't know if I'll ever be able to put it in exact words but here goes.

I think if these new Knight designs existed from the beginning and we had no Bay designs to compare them too I think I wouldn't have a problem with them. If these were what existed in 2007 I think I'd be fine with that. They would be a perfect representation of "Transformers" on the big screen.

What kills the designs for me is the fact that the Bay designs do exist. Bay, whether you like him or not and like the movies or not, pushed the envelope on what Transformers could look like. He didn't stick slavishly to the G1 designs but instead took their basic elements and created something new. To me, the designs make sense - alien robots don't need to look humanoid. And if a basic part of their biology is turning into vehicles, it makes sense for those vehicle parts to be part of their robot modes (Knight stuck to this principle so really this is only a dig on the AOE and TLK designs).

I will say too that Bumblebee had the unfortunate fate of coming out in 2018 when we had Siege, Cyberverse, Evergreen, and we had just come off of a trilogy line (Combiner Wars, Titans Return, and Power of the Primes) that focused heavily on the G1 designs. It was this environment that kind of made it feel like G1 designs were just being pushed out everywhere and it just became too much for me.

I respect the 80s toys and cartoon for what they did and for helping to give this franchise its foundation, but I want fresh ideas. I want new interpretations. Bay made bold design choices and it worked for me. I may be biased because the first movie came out when I was 9 and kind of acts as my version of G1 but I just appreciate that those designs don't strictly follow anything that was already established. It was new and exciting.

This was a long post and probably doesn't help explain all of my thoughts but that's it in a nut shell.

With all of this said, however, I respect anyone who likes the new Knightverse designs. I think they are elegant in their own way and have some great qualities.

If you're looking for the most movie accurate Scorponok you should take a look at "4ever studios scorpion". He's the best representation of the Scorponok that we have so far

If they introduce Lockdown in a future knightverse movie I would like to see something similar to his ROTF toy design, I think it fits very well.

 

Just speculation but Devastator completed with colored protos will probably be shown off at NYTF and the last two will come out in the typical right before summer starts wave

 

What is the stroy behind this booth? Is it a tease to a new movie or a new toyline? Any related news that I missded?

A new line of licensed high-end BB figures from yolopark. First up is their prime who is apparently going to have a limited amount made.

 

Phew. This is in some way a good news. Way out of my pay league at the moment.

Thought I had to start collecting a new line there. Just gave me the scare.

I have seen those, they are less fun to paint trough (all done) ill repaint the deluxe, he is good enough.

I get it, my favorite design from bumblebee are the early ones that seem to be half Bumblebee/G1 and half Bay- by this I mean Bee, Shatter, Dropkick and maybe Blitzscream (I still wonder what happened there). I'm less fond of the much more G1 tuned designs from characters who appear on Cybertron (I do like the G1esq Prime, but not as much as the design from the original bay triliogy).

In fact I'm prtetty sure I've settled on passing on 3A (3zero I guess now)'s new Soundwave. I like it, but just love it the way a lot of people here do and for what it costs I need to love it.

That's a shame. He's at least as big as 3A's- maybe bigger. He'll fall into that same awkward size valley 3A's and another OS KO of the deluxe I have fall into. Chances of me getting this just dropped quite a bit (still may happen).

 

@PrimeVsPrime can you take the head from Jet Shatter and put it on car shatter????
