This is why people say Disney doesn't "get" Star Wars.

Ya know... this is gonna sound hyperbolic, but I don’t care any more:

At the very least, Lucasfilm doesn’t like Luke Skywalker. Maybe not even Han Solo but they definitely hate Luke.

Which is a sad irony considering Lucasfilm - the business they make their substantial incomes - was built on Luke and Han.

Everyone involved in this disaster of a series seemed motivated by the belief, or arrogance, that they could create better characters and tell a better SW story than Lucas could.

Yep, so had Luke killed him would his spirit possess him???
And why did his spirit not fly back the shaft and posssess Luke?
This thing makes less sense the more you think about it.

Is it that arrogant? Lots of people have created better characters and told better Star Wars stories than Lucas. Lawrence Kasdan, Timothy Zahn, Drew Karpyshyn, Dave Filoni is an easy list off the top of my head

Shame that climax will probably be as disappointing as the film's climax...

True enough. Though one could argue that at the very least the other writers you mentioned had respect for Lucas' characters and the world he created with at least an understanding of the Star Wars universe.

Granted I am arguing from a point of ignorance because I’ve never read the books or watched the cartoons, but I have a hard time believing the characters and stories of the books and cartoons are better stories than the OT and PT.

I believe they likely told the stories better than Lucas told the PT, but not that they told a better story than the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin which was Lucas’ story.

but, again, I’m arguing from ignorance on that part.

I just assumed he needed the bloodline to posess. He couldn't get Luke because he's not a blood relative.

That's fair. Our regard for the story Lucas has to tell is probably different too. I love Star Wars, but very little of what I love about it has to do with Lucas' story or characters.

According to NuWars lore, this species has no eyes, ears, nose or brain. Instead, everything is in its mouth, resulting in it having to grin all of the time so as to be able to 'see' things.

Saw it yesterday... not really too happy with it. I found it mostly underwhelming. I did not get the force ghosts I wanted to which is all I wanted in this movie. The voice cameos we got were so muddled I could barely make out who was who. Even Mace Windu, freaking Samuel L. Jackson sounded muddled and could barely make him out. How do you make his voice that boring and unnoticeable. The only ones that really sounded clear was Yoda and Obi-Won. Anakin line of bring balance to the force like I did is not even true anymore since yea looks like Palpatine was alive this whole time? I am not sure because they do not make it clear if he ever died, cloned, or anything. Point is yea Anakin whole journey was pointless so way to go. Also hate hate hate the ending of her just calling her Rey Skywalker and knew it was coming once the alien asked what her last name was at the start. But these new movies is feel like curb stomping the old characters and taking their stuff. First it was the lightsaber and Millennium falcon now the name Skywalker. But the way Palpatine died was just awful and was the most anticlimactic death ever. If "death" was so much better, sure it is just some cyborg tossing him over but it had meaning. It was a father saving his son. This is just "LOOK I AM ALL THE SITH. I AM THE MOST POWERFUL THING EVER AND CAN JUST GOT YOUR LIFE FORCE TO INCREASE MY POWER" then boom reflects lighting and done. Did you not learn your lesson from Windu to stop shooting lighting if someone blocking it back at you man?

Luke one scene was the best part probably of the movie I will say that.

I liked seeing Wedge. That was fan service that worked. Lando was cool to see of course. C3-PO was used well in the movie.

How much did Harrison Ford get paid to show up.

Also anyone find it funny how TFA was about the map to finding Luke and now RoS is about the thing to lead to the map to Palpatine. Seriously two of these three movies were about basically a map to find the old character we want to see.

Jannah and Zorii were fine just kind of just there although they had good chemistry with both Finn and Poe. They were not bad but again I have to wonder why introduce new "main characters" this late in the game. Same with D-O. Just again let us do something with the characters we already have instead of new ones.

I could go on and on forever here on things about this.

    My feeling at the moment...

    1. A New Hope
    2. The Empire Strikes Back
    3. Return of the Jedi
    4. Revenge of the Sith
    5. The Clone Wars
    6. Attack of the Clones
    7. The Phantom Menace
    8. Rogue One
    9. The Force Awakens
    10. The Rise of Skywalker
    11. Solo
    12. The Last Jedi

There is difference between “plot armor,” which by the way is some unforgivable sin when discussing Rey, and the way the OT characters are treated in the EU material. They are lionized to the point of being wooden characters devoid of any actual character. Once you make Luke Skywalker the perfect-god-hero-Jedi he becomes pointless and dull. It sure was interesting reading about him drinking all that hot chocolate....

Han’s actions in TFA lead to the destruction of StarKiller base. It’s dependent on his plan and...

Han’s death contributes to his son’s redemption, watch the ROS, and...

Han shows up immediately once the Falcon leaves Jakku cause he’s been tracking it the whole time and stops a smuggling run to get his ship back once it’s active again...

She gets overpowered, kidnapped and interrogated. She does next to nothing in TFA to save the day. Nothing. She doesn’t destroy Starkiller Base, Han and Poe do, all she does is survive the events defeating Kylo it does not effect the outcome of the story and she isn’t handed a massive victory like Luke destroying the Deathstar.

In TLJ she also accomplished very little, she fails in her test and goes to the dark-side, she leaves her training early, gets owned by Snoke, helps Kylo overthrow him and fails to turn Kylo back to the light. Luke Skywalker and Holdo actually save the day in that movie. Perhaps you remember in ESB Luke takes out a bunch of AT-ATs and delays the sacking of Echo Base? Yeah super Rey doesn’t do shit that epic she draws away some Tie-Fighters while Luke does all the heavy lifting.

And then ROS, she fails in a Kylo fight, blows up a transport, kills Kylo and freaks herself out to the point of trying to exhile herself.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Rey isn’t nearly as heroic as Luke and accomplishes less than he did in the OT. The only thing she actually pulls off on screen is redeeming Kylo and killing Palpatine. But you know she never lost a limb so I guess she never suffered. Rey’s whole character arc is she keeps surviving one shitty experience after another and the only one that actually impacts the universe is the final one.

The entire ST covers Ben’s fall on screen. So... you have no point. His first act is murdering unarmed prisoners and an old man.

Since Palpatine obviously didn’t die when he went down the shaft.... Why would his spirit fly up and possess Luke?

I think it belongs in the Hobbit lore more than Star Wars.

To be fair, TROS has a smaller Sunday to Monday decline percentage wise because it had a smaller Sunday take. TFA still took in 30% more on Monday than TROS, which reflects that TFA simply had such a high Sunday.

this is certainly a favorable result compared to TLJ but it doesn’t reflect anything positive compared to TFA.

I've been assuming the person has to kill him down in anger for papa palpatine to posses them.
Vader threw him into the shaft to save his son so not angry enough.
