I was eyeing that one but all the mixed opinions had me second-guessing myself. Love every FT figure I have but the consensus didn’t seem to be there for Spotter.

Ended up going for MakeToys and KFC, and I guess will sell whichever doesn’t do it for me (as much as the other).

But if they reissue or one comes up at the right price I think I could be convinced to give it a go.

Having had all three and still having KFC & FT - I can say with confidence the KFC Opticlones re issues is the best set.

Spotter does tick the incredibly cartoon accurate tick box, the bot mode is really spot on but besides that, he has the usual FT tolerance and over engineered problems. Maketoys has a slightly stiff transformation but incorporates the lens which is brilliant, it's also very solid plastic and nothing feels like it would break (unlike FT) BUT it's not quite toon enough, very white plastic and the camera doesn't really look accurate at all. Opticlones only downfall are the appearence in bot mode, it's more accurate than MT but less so than FT. But they have the best transformation, most accurate camera & most solid of the three in materials (Shocking from KFC !)

I get the other two this week so I'll post my thoughts as I'm sure there's still a lot of people not sure which way to go. My preference is for G1 toon bot accuracy, and real-life alt mode (MP Ironhide is prob my fav example). I know that's way too specific lol.

I'll admit I am also shocked to hear good things about KFC, although I've never owned a figure only their hand upgrades which are pretty good.

I’m not sure KFC deserves all the flack they get. Yes they’ve had some duds and yes I only own two figures which is Transistor and the Opticlones, but I honestly think both are fantastic.

Just received MakeToys Visualizer and KFC Opticlones last night - pulled them out of the box but no real chance to play with them yet. First impressions are maybe a bit disappointing though. My collection so far is almost exclusively Takara/Hasbro and FansToys so I guess I'm used to a bit more "heft". Not necessarily heavy but maybe a bit more solid feeling? I get that they're a cheaper figure but I think I still paid over $100 each (USD).

Might be back on the hunt for FT Spotter after all...

I thought the KFC ones were also nice. So they are a little disappointing?

So I should disclose that they arrived in the same shipment as FansToys Quietus (FT29T) so it’s obviously creating a big contrast in quality. I won’t hijack the thread even further with my thoughts on it!

Will do the transform and pose them up a bit with other figures and post back if I warm to them.

I love mine, and the camera mode is very hefty. (The Kfc one)

Spotter is an older design so don't expect the same heft & paint that you get on more recent figures. Spotter individually weighs less than the Opticlones from memory

The individual spotter members have pretty good heft and rigidity. I just wouldn't transform them into camera mode, as it weakens their joints too much.

Funny that I've heard if you transform Spotter, the back leg flap/kibble will be loose and flop around. Mines is loose and I've never transformed it @ all. And yes Folks,I'm the Original owner.

Good point. My reference for FT is Omega Supreme, Jetfire, Cyclonus and Galvatron so I wasn’t really aware they weren’t always making figures of that calibre.

After spending some time with both the KFC and Maketoys it’s definitely the KFC that’s won me over.

Thanks for everyone’s input. Without it I definitely would have ended up shelling out for a Spotter (going rate looks to be $300+ now) and convinced myself it was the right decision!

Hi, just wondering if anyone here that got the same issue as mine? My spotters are having duplicate transforming parts (1-2-1 members as opposed to 1-2-3), so I am unable to transform it properly. I contacted FT and they dont have spareparts for Spotter anymore..

If someone has a duplicate / same issue as mine then maybe we can trade? Thanks!

I just got the Opticlones from baba and really like the set. My only gripe is the Peruvian flag on the upper-right hand side of their chest. Not sure why that's there.

This set is still my favorite out of all the versions.

I have said it 100 times, but MakeToys’ version is just way too goofy looking and scream “I am plastic!/I’m a toy!” — we all know they’re toys, but hoping y’all know what I mean. Their swim caps are also silly and the colors are off.

The KFC set looks like they all just got done lifting weights.

I'm shocked and amazed it's been this long honestly. The only true potential repaint other than a drole X version. It's a mold that they know sells extremely well and could definitely use one more run.
