While I agree with you it seems silly to buy multiples for display in each mode, at the end of the day our hobby is one generally fueled by compulsion on some level so if someone’s compulsion is a bit different than ours, more power to them I suppose.

 

Heh. Well I certainly get compulsion. It's why my "limited collection of my favorite characters" has ballooned into a nearly complete S1, S2, TFTM collection. And I get that a model car wouldn't scratch the same itch. My thing, though, is I have two G1 Megatrons and two G1 Optimus that I display in both modes (the only figures I own multiples of) but it's kind of ruined those figures for me. I get the impulse to grab one to fiddle with and transform and I'm just like, "oh wait. The gun mode is already right there."

 

 

Basically because I’m an idiot?  Pretty much what it boils down to.
Yeah I could use model cars but then they’d be model cars not transformers.
As they say “the heart wants what the heart wants”. A full collection of alt plus bot is a dream of mine. I can afford it, so I may as well do it.
I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t do things the hard way.

 

You don't have to explain yourself to anyone man, you do you. Let others do what they want. Noone has to understand anyone else's likes or wants.

Tbf we're very fortunate to have this level of choice so enjoy it whilst it lasts.

 

It’s all good mate. Happy to talk about my collection and why I do it. Like @Snaku i also originally started with a more reasonable goal but over time the satisfaction I’ve gained from my collection and the joy I take in new releases has been a big part of my happiness. My goals have expanded (and occasionally, though rarely, retracted again) and where they are currently is a full alt + bot mode collection of Seasons 1-3 and the movie. Looking at them displayed on the shelf is amazing for me and I know model cars or cardboard cutouts wouldn’t give me the same pleasure. I do transform stuff occasionally but often it’s enough to just see them on the shelf. I only ever had two transformers toys as a kid (Wheeljack and Perceptor) so while I have no nostalgia for the original toys, seeing the cartoon come to life on my shelf is a huge thrill for my inner child. Plus, my daughter loves my collection as much as I do and it’s a form of therapy for her autism to share the collection with me. My little boy is also becoming quite taken with “Daddies Wobots”
I’m not completely insane. There are limits. I don’t do Season 4 bots, I have no interest in any of the Japanese continuities and avoid almost everything Bayverse. I bought the first couple of Beast Wars MP’s then realised they don’t do it for me and so only have the two leaders. I will pick up KO’s where they’re available and if the quality is up to scratch and I purchase everything through TaoBao so I’m saving 20-30% per figure. And of course, I’ve resisted the urge to pre-order FT’s Fort Max, because he’s from Season 4 so he’s out of scope.
Basically, my collection is something I have in my life that’s just for me and it brings me happiness. The fact that it helps my daughter as well is a bonus.
Each to their own. My goals may be excessive but I caught a picture of the collection of one of those rabid “official only” types and I honestly felt a little sad for them. Think about it. A G1 transformers collection that’s limited to only what Takara is producing? He had it spread out over an entire bookcase and it was just huge empty spaces with the occasional figure dotted around. I would get no satisfaction from being so limited in a collection but it’s what makes them happy. On the flip side, songrobin displays only one of every character but invests hours into installing lights into them. Others can completely repaint $3-400 dollar figures for their shelves.
I’m at least in good company around here with my madness.

 

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's idiotic (unless you're neglecting other important things to pay for it). Just saying I don't understand. But I guess I kinda do. It is pretty cool seeing them all arrayed on the shelf and I've seen pics of people's alt+bot collections and it looked pretty cool. And there are times when I like both of a figure's modes enough that I want to display it both ways. I don't because I already consider the collection to be insane with just one of each and also the thing I mentioned in my other post about how having both removes the incentive to transform them.

But I have to keep thinking of it as weird - otherwise I might start feeling tempted to do it myself. Nothing personal

that's why I don't understand why people get onto a competing products thread just to say they are going with the competing product. it's like, "ok, have fun with that, it's our money, do with it whatever makes you happy". we should be happy we have the choices we have and no one should have to buy something just because someone else thinks that product is "better" than your choice. no one should have to explain why they like what they like, unless it's that Nicee thing...that's just fucking weird.

Buying a certain version of a toy or multiple versions because of reasons (one of which calling yourself an idiot incorrectly) is totally different to making your toy look like its fucking the air in an attempt to stop it looking like a rake.

But if you like that kinda thing knock yourself out. Still looks stoopid to me. Excellent job of taking one part of a post completely out of context though

Fantastic! If shipping is hopefully this week, it means tomorrow is unlikely (the original date). Hopefully we start to see retailers getting this in stock over the weekend or early next week. We might be able to have this late next week if all goes well, and I for one cannot wait to get this and MP Hound sometime in the next 10 days!
