Sure, but the original character design isn't the cartoon model, it's the "J59 Jeep" toy from the Diaclone toyline. The cartoon model was based directly on the "J59 Jeep" toy, and doesn't exist for the sake of being a unique design like Chris Reeve Superman or Michael Keaton Batman. It exists to represent the "J59 Jeep" toy rebranded as the "Hound" toy for the Transformers toyline in a way that's easy for the overseas sweatshop animators to be able to quickly draw and animate. Of course, the cartoon models have taken on a life of their own since then, but with as many errors that popped up in the process (like Hound's pistol being the result of misinterpreting the boxart's rifle) I'm just irritated by them being treated as these untouchable holy things.

But at the same time, would you expect someone to complain if those figures DID come with those optional extra's?
Of course not. Your argument doesn't really apply here, because we are not talking about limiting the figure, we are talking about expanding it. If that Michael Keaton Batman ONLY came with an Adam West cowl you'd have a valid argument.
No-one should be getting up in arms that their expensive toy comes with MORE display options.
Takara doesn't have to include gimmicks and accessories from obscure episodes but they do, because it's a nice option for those who want it, and it has no impact on those who don't (not even on the price, because we all know that the mark up on these is well beyond accounting for the price of extra plastic). People complaining that a figure absolutely should not come with an optional extra is daft. These are the same folks who praise Takara for including opening door's or light-up eyes or voice clips.... all of which are optional extra's!!
It pretty much comes down to the usual selfishness... "it's not important to me, so it shouldn't be done". I mean that is LITERALLY what this guy said:
And to be clear, I want the toon accurate mini-wheels, I'm glad they are on there. But I would have zero issues if the option to remove them was included.

Man, this is looking like such a mess. WIsh we could go back to the type of transformations we got from MP prowl. Toon asthetic, toy asthetic, I don\'t really care, but, to quite Thew, \"It\'s still a toy, guys. It\'s still supposed to be fun.\"

We still have those transformations, there just in the Generations line now. I actually think they're more fun now, simply because they require you to understand what you're doing. Are they more intimidating now on the first transformation, yes. After 2 or 3 transformations however they start to make perfect sense, at least to me anyway.

This is exactly why I love what the Masterpiece line has become, despite at one time thinking that I wouldn't be into a heavily toon-accurate MP aesthetic. Once I had them, I quickly realized this is exactly what I've been wanting since 1984.

We've seen G1-inspired updates of these characters time and time again, in various lines from Classics to Binaltech/Alternators to the many variations presented in the Generations line these past several years. Masterpiece is the first line to give us accurate 3D versions of the character models in a consistent robot-mode-based scale that actually transform into realistically styled versions of the same vehicles these characters were in G1. I don't care that the vehicle modes don't have accurate paint details because the sculpted details are all there (and if I want to I can add paint detail - something I've enjoyed doing with my toys since I was a kid). I don't mind that the robot modes don't have a ton of filler detail greebles because their transformations create similar details that actually serve a function and aren't just added for decoration.

When I was a kid, I loved the real-world detail of the G1 toy vehicle modes but wished that the robot modes looked like they did on the cartoon. Now I have those in my hands and they also satisfy my love for three-dimensional puzzles. I couldn't be happier.

That said, I do feel for those who were getting what they'd always wanted with the Hasui-era aesthetic.

This. For fans complaning about current MPs being too fiddily and complex Siege is the perfect alternative.

Nah.Agree to Disagree. For me it was Takara's Henkei Hound. Right decor and style in both modes, imo.

I don't mind complex transformations on the face of them, but I just don't feel like we're getting anything for it. It's led to a huge price increase and much fiddlier process to wind up with a figure that is, at best, only AS good as the earlier MP stuff, and in many cases is compromised somehow. Big ugly backpacks on sunny and OP3, the weirdly wrong-shaped jeep mode and dumb neck flap thing on hound, all 3 being prone to breakage, etc. I guess the articulation is usually better but I'm not sure it's worth all the compromises and twice the price just for that.

Meh I disagree but either way, they're both better than this frabrige egg of a figure.
