Does anyone else ever mix up Metroplex and Fortress Maximus?

I know Fortress Maximus is a Headmaster and Metroplex isn't. I know Metroplex can interact with the base modes of the Scramble City leaders and I don't think Fortress Maximus can.

Unlike Trypticon and Scorponok who are obviously very different from each other being that one is a T-Rex that transforms into a City and the other is a Scorpion with an actual robot mode. Their Autobot counterparts however are both robots who transform into cities.

This kinda came up recently because I was telling my dad who's a Trekie about the Star Trek Transformers crossover and it just dawned on me that I don't actually know who this is.

That head design looks like Fortress Maximus to me but he's fighting Trypticon which makes me think is that Fort Max or is that actually Metroplex? Metroplex and Trypticon are Scramble City toys while Fort Max and Scorpinok are the giant Headmasters.

I don't think it helps that even the fiction seems to confuse the two some times. I mean that's probably why we have Fort Max vs. Trypticon here because they're both giant Cityformers even though that really should have been Metroplex. Though I do like the idea of using the Headmaster to transform the Enterprise. And to that respect they should of had Scorponok turn into one these.

I'm kind of imaging a triple changer here where this can turn into a robot or a scorpion. And the shape of the ship already kinda looks like a scorpion. Just open the nassels and extend them outward to become the claws, bend the neck up and fold out a hidden stinger in the bridge section to become the tail.

That thing on top of the main body could easily act as a panel to conceal the scorpion head and the legs could be tucked away underneath. I don't know why they didn't have this as Scorponok to fight Fort Max instead of regular old Trypticon.

In the general case of normal, no.
But with Tiber, yes as blue-grey-green bot turning into grey bot is confusing as 2 greybots make my mind go "boink"

Um... I'm going to interpret this to mean that Fortress Maximus is normally a lot more colorful than Fortress Tiberious is. Metroplex on the other hand is a mostly grey robot who doesn't have much color at all so yeah if you ignore the fact that their heads have totally different designs.

I'd love to say i don't confuse them..... But sometimes i do.
I think i could draw a rough sketch of Metroplex from memory but with Fortress Maximus at this moment in time i cant think of any distinguishing features apart from a little cross on his head.

    Fortro Mexiplex :p

I've never mixed them up, personally. And while it's true that Metroplex and Trypticon are usually paired off as counterparts, it's not like there's a rule that says only they can fight each other. Devastator is usually paired off against Omega Supreme, but in the movie he fights the Dinobots.

No. Metroplex is bigger. Fortress Maximus is smaller.

    That's just about it.

Metroplex is white, red, gray, black mixed in; Fort Max is red, blue with some white and gray. No confusion in my opinion.

I always thought they were the same size... maybe not as toys but in fiction they both seem to be depicted as these huge city sized Transformers. That said as toys I think you got that backwards.

Fortress Maximus is the biggest one. The original Scramble City combiners weren't that big so Metroplex which was designed to interact with the base modes of the torso bots, was also very small.

Oh and their modern updates are scaled to be about the same size. Metroplex might be a little bit bigger if you go from the top those guns on his shoulders.

Not really, since Fortress Maximus is a regular sized Transformer (ala Marvel or IDW) in my head while Metroplex isn't.

Never confused them. I had the Metroplex toy as a kid, and I watched Headmasters where Fortress Maximus has a major role as Autobot leader, so I have always been quite familiar with both of them.

I think in the TF/ST comic they had Fort Max and Trypty because of their TR toys

In your defence, the Marvel adaption of Transformers The Movie called the armoured version of Autobot City, Fortress Maximus.

I think Fortress Maximus was originally considered as a name for Metroplex.

Cybertron Metroplex had a colour scheme similar to G1 Fortress Maximus.
