Skywarp was highly coveted at my school and only a few kids had him... I was not one of those kids...
Just out of curiosity was he a limited release figure? I always thought that all three seekers were widely available during G1 so correct me if I'm wrong.
Previous years have inductees have been the characters in general and not a single incarnation (like Optimus is G1, Armada, Prime, Animated Optimus Prime all together in one in the hall of fame). But this time the vote was specifically for 1984 cartoon Skywarp. I wonder if a general "Skywarp" will be inducted or just G1 Skywarp.
Ravage was a clear front runner at the start of the Fan Vote. However, compromising Ravage tapes were released to the media clearly showing unbecoming catty behavior. That & Ravage using private email account while officially working for the Decepticons cost him the gong. Devastator still building a bridge with Collectors who got loose leg connector joints.
He may be down, but he’ll rise again! As for the results- don’t care. Don’t have anything against Skywarp. He’s fine. This was a boring HoF this year with Hasbro selecting all the nominees. No surprise that they drew only from the tried & true well of G1. It was cool in prior years, when the fans actually got to have a hand in choosing who the nominees would be. We’d see a wider range of characters from the franchises’ long history, not just its first year. We’d get some surprising characters like movie Barricade or Waspinator or TFP Knockout. The polls were a great way to also show Hasbro who the fan favorite characters outside of G1 were. It is what it is though. Not a big deal. Just dull & lacking all the excitement this year.
I know Starscream was sold well into 1986, and Thundercracker and Skywarp were phased out in 1985 for Ramjet, Thrust and Dirge...
I feel like that's the only purpose of these stupid votes/hall of fame. Skywarp winning means nothing. He gets lots of toys, and is represented in almost every new toy line. It's great that Omega won, but only because we want to keep seeing Titan toys. I only recently got a copy, so I couldn't vote for it at all (unless I was voting to send a message). You know what would be better? If this vote led to a mail-order exclusive for fans. Vote for your fave character, then get a special edition version, with a new paint job. For example, being the Xmas season, why not make a special Santa Skywarp?
With Skywarp's win I'd like to see a "teleporting" or "mid-warp" version from the Earthrise Starscream mold, seen some great customs from Classics to MP but to my knowledge no official attempt. Maybe Omega's toy win will help grease the wheels for an Omega Sentinel/Guardian Robot repaints/remolds? Personally, Actionmaster Elite Omega Spreem and pre-TF Mecha-bot 1 Black repaints are my jam!
Somehow Skywarp is the only one of the six seeker releases I have yet to get a vintage copy of. Somewhat waiting on a friend to get me one from his childhood stuff he said he had a couple years back, but either need to act on that or track one down.....as well as a broadside, but that is another story.
Is this considered the same hall of fame that they would announce at the Botcon reception dinners ? Or is this a different hall of fame launched in the post-Botcon era ?
Wow--I totally missed this. Ah well, my vote would have been for Jetfire or OS, so either one fits. HoF character matters less, as I'm sure they'll all get in there eventually (give it, like, twenty years).
Yea, while I would still get the eventual Walmart reissue (I have a commemorative somewhere), I still eventually need an original (I still need to replace about 4 cars and my sky lynx that are reissues as well).
Maybe next year maybe....just maybe....they could let the fans actually choose the characters they actually want to see inducted for the HOF.
This is the way. You had your chance, but he lost to Blaster. He was nominated years ago. Erector (G1) - Transformers Wiki
