Great review! Really looking forward to getting mine even more now. I have to admit I dont recognize that Ravage. I've only seen the deluxe and it doesnt appear any if the SS figures came with him. It would be nice if we got a Ravage with the possible upcoming satellite Soundwave though.

Now how do I get a new Frenzy as I lost my Movie 1 Barricade with him a while back...

That Ravage is Legends class Ravage which was released in the line after the RotF line (HftD?). He works quite well posed with Studio Series figures, I have him posed with Rampage.

Same here! He's still really fun. Only problem is the hip cannons on mine broke off many years ago, I glued them back on but they broke again when I took him out earlier this year to be friends with Rampage :(

    Just opened mine today.
I want to like it, I really do. With how awesome Megatron and even Mixmaster are, I thought Soundwave may continue the trend. After all, this is Soundwave!
    Sadly, that isn't to be.

-While the paint is quite nice, he is disturbingly bland. Sure, the movie Decepticons generally are, but this is almost pushing the boundaries. The details are there, but are lost in a sea of gray
-The head is awful. I know he had fangs in the movie, but damn this guy looks weird in this scale with minimal paint on soft plastic.
-In bot mode I was pretty cold to the idea of how far back the shoulder joints sit compared to the head. Looks great from the front, but move his arms forward and they barely clear the chest.
-The transformation was pretty interesting up until the chest pieces fell off. Really don't see a way to transform and level them on.
This fact alone completely killed my enjoyment of the figure. Back to parts popping off I guess.
    *sigh*

It makes my excitement for Shockwave amost bitter thinking he's going to be bad as well. Also, the rumored satellite Soundwave seems a lot less enticing now as well. How will they ruin that one when the still viable RotF mold is solid and fun and stays together?

I don't like being this negative, honestly. Considering that the last three figures I got were really nice (car Droplick, Megs and Mixer), once the parts started falling off and poor design choices revealed themselves, it killed the momentum for me. This is just not a fun toy,
Good thing I got CW Blast Off in the mail today too, or this would have been a bad close to the year.
I can say with certainty that Shockwave will officially be my last new movie figure.

Yeah, but aside from Satellite Soundwave (that I retain some light optimism for), there aren't any other characters from the movies I like or want.

Edit: I went back and tried two more times to transform Soundwave without having the chest pieces fall off, and was unsuccessful. There are two tabs that will not allow the pieces to go around them, knocking them out of their ball joints.
I do like how the bot mode looks outside of the head sculpt, so will be keeping him in that mode and probably add some much needed paint apps.

Seeing pics of the old HA one...yeah. Glad I didn't buy that one now. The legs especially look ugly.

My Soundwave should be here on Friday! Can't wait, he's my most anticipated figure out of the Studio Series line. Really hoping that a 3rd party group releases his blasters, I'd even taken an alternate visor head if they made it. That's one element I do like from the original deluxe, inaccurate as it may be

Yeah I used to be sad it wasn't release but it looks really bad compared to the new SS deluxe.

Overall, he is a nice figure. I still think I like the HA version better.

Be careful with the tabs on the door frames. I'm not ham handed or anything but, those bastards just sheared right off. Doesn't affect anything but, still annoying.

Figure is nice, I’m not blown away by it but it’s a good figure. I wish the back car kibble had a place to tab into and he just needs some blue paint. The silver paint apps is nice to see and it’s a great color. Laserbeak is a nice addition but I think I would have liked a gun for him to hold instead.

The instructions show to just flip the head when changing to car mode. When I do it, the head antenna stick out. I pulled it out to rotate the head backwards. It was scary due to the tightness of the head. It works fine now. I hope I didn’t break an tabs or anything cause it made an a awful loud click when I turned it

The head is on a double hinge, which allows it to sit relatively flush under the car. If you don't push both hinges it will cause the antenna to drag.

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else, but is anyone having the same issues I have with keeping the chest sides on during transformation? Either I'm doing something horribly wrong, others have found a solution or are glossing over the issue.

I've had him since I made the thread, and only yesterday was I able to rotate one of the headlights without popping off for the first time. There is the smallest possible window of clearance you have to work with. The best direction to go in is rotating the headlights down first.

I got Sounders and the 07 Camaro Bee today, and Soundwave is pretty great. He's at least an excellent example of how good Hasbro has gotten at delivering reasonably accurate movie designs in deceptively simple ways- fundamentally, his transformation is to flip up his feet, shrug down his arms and swing up the chest. The only hiccup is in rotating his headlights around, but once I figured out that they should rotate a particular way, I've had a nearly 100% success rate in transforming them.

I like his backpack as well. It pegs into a solid unit, and while that is then free to swing back and forth on a single hinge, that just seems to serve to neatly get it out of the way. Subjectively, his colours are really drab (not that I'm asking for a G1 scheme here- anything with more contrast than silver & dark grey would be preferable), but that's just being honest to the source. It's just another modern figure where I miss the "cause we can" random repaints.
