...i was originally drawn to IDW toys for their exotic cybertronian aesthetic; my appreciation for the fiction came much later...i expect i'm not alone in that regard, so i see no problem with folks treating the figures as re-imagined G1 characters...

I hear you, but no reason to add more outright venom to the mix. Collect and let collect, my man. This is the way.

    Here here.

Also regarding IDW Saber (I haven't read the comics, but he's kind of a psychopath right?), is that really any different than the flak some series/characters get for "name-slapping?" I can understand the disdain for having a traditionally heroic, good-guy character being portrayed as a mad man (case in point: Bayverse Prime).

Anywho, like what you like. I personally like cool toys, so despite neither reading IDW or having seen Victory, I'll be getting this guy... At some point...
... Oh hey, it's almost Christmas.

This thread was for the unveiling, in-stock/shipping notifications, reviews of the toy itself, not really a critique of the character. (That's a whole 'nother thread.) I think this entire exchange has been pure cringe. At best, you could say "Oh, he matches up with the artwork well!" or "Not my cup of tea. Too "jointy", I'm out." or something of that nature. Seems needless to drag that conversation in here. Which, again, brings me back to the original poster starting all of this... Digs, all of which are unnecessary, just didn't need to happen to begin with. This is why we can't have nice things.

    BINGO.

Either way, I'm just glad I'm getting a Star Saber and Victory Leo that I can actually afford AND want. It's a win, win, all around for me. You want G1? There's the original, there's the MP, and there are knock offs. Anyone who wants more of that, they have it. Anyone who wants more IDW, you're getting it courtesy of Planet X. Anyone like me, in the middle, who wants the best of both worlds, here we are. Be thankful, not ungrateful. (and that's for all of us)

    I like this.

And Star Saber was not one of those. ;)  the only thing IDW SS had going for him was the zealotry angle and nothing was done with that.

All I was trying to say is why does everything have to be g1, I didn't say anything about what anyone chooses to buy.

Edit:also I'm 40 years old and love g1 it's what started me with this great franchise. Was only trying to give my opinion, but I should have learn from my previous posts on this site you can't have a opinion because the next person is obviously right and your opinion means nothing, so please let's get back to the toy and I'll stop posting.

Would be nice that we focus on the figure and not if he's comic or G1 enough. I just got him today. Been wanting to get this figure to go with my Dezsaras. Both figures look amazing next to each other.

Now wait a sec, no one said you can't give an opinion or that you couldn't post. Just that that specific post and the content in it wasn't necessary here, in this thread, and it wasn't necessary to make dig comments at people for no good reason. And deep down, you really know that. You do.

I mean, seriously, to you... Do you really feel this thread, showcasing a specific figure and its soon to be companion bot is the place to unleash the G1 vs IDW/whatever argument? I'm genuinely asking. What does one subject have to do with the other when this is a showcase thread?

And for clarification sake, I've owned G1, IDW, Prime, MP, SS, etc and I'm partial to G1, but aside from Cyberverse I can see the value all of them bring to the brand. Even Rescue Bots brings something to the table. That said, that discussion isn't pertinent, here, so I wouldn't be bringing it up had it not been for your original post kick starting this twisted path we're on now.

Crying foul that you've somehow been denied your rights when you haven't is poor form. Rules and structure exist for a reason. If someone stormed into your living room and started talking about something you hold sacred, let's say, I'm pretty sure you'd be PO'd and would be telling them to take a hike or removing them from the room. Same thing here. We're discussing one figure/aspect and you're bringing in unneccessary nothingness much like the person in the example above.

Want to continue talking about Star Saber? By all means. Join in. Want to talk about Planet X's work? By all means, join in. Anything beyond that seems ripe for trouble.

Thank you! Exactly the point of this thread. More to your point... I still kind of prefer Dez over this guy simply because he's beefier, sturdier, and MASSIVE. The first time you see that dragon mode, you just kind of go "bruh..." but I'll cop to Star Saber having insane articulation. That two-point waist swivel is insane. I've never had a more articulated Transformer in my collection, at least not to my recollection. I wonder if Victory Leo will hinder that some or make him so heavy that he can't pose or stand properly. I'm hoping when he comes out that he's all plastic, in this case, to aid with stability.

I wasn't trying to pit idw vs g1 just the thought that new toys have to have g1 in them, Leo looks great in all honestly. I was just saying why the need to make it when it isn't comic related it's a g1 thing, I also said I'm happy for those that enjoy it when I said the g1 comments so we can agree to disagree So have a nice day, But as far as this saber goes besides his ear antenna scaring me to death they will break I love him.

Honestly, some people (or robots) are one dimensional.

In fact, most (let’s be honest, *all*; or they wouldn’t be zealots) religious zealots *are* close minded, one dimensional beings — so this fit him quite well.

I don't disagree. But it makes for one hell of a boring villain. And makes it all the more mystifying that this is the approach Roberts went with for a character that yeah might be a generic good guy, but is still pretty beloved. Especially when his nemesis Deathsaurus was done really well.

At least he got two *stellar* toys out of it.

...i was initially struck by the difference in solidity and mass between the two figures, but you raise an excellent point i hadn’t considered: perhaps star saber was engineered in such a lightweight fashion specifically to accommodate victory leo...

Even I admit that IDW starsaber has no character beyond "religious prick." I prefer a heroic Starsaber.

I liked the different spin on starsaber but I also can see why those use to a traditional good guy role for him would be disappointed. I do wish he would have had a more fleshed out role though, like more in line with deathsaurus maybe? But deathsaurus is my favorite transformer so anything related to him I like.

Good figure. Mirroring what others have said: wish the leg ratchets were tighter. He can still stand, but any looser, and I fear he's fall over. But otherwise, looks great.

Quick question: he came with two screws and some... screw hole fillers, I think. Do those go anywhere specific? I'm sure this has been addressed, but I don't have the time right now to scour the thread for an answer, so I figured I'd just ask.

The screws are use to keep the wings attach to his back. As for the screw hole covers, I believe they go on is arms (didn't use them on my figure, so I'm not too certain).

Ah! Thank you. I'll probably screw the wings in, even though the connection is already strong enough.
And yeah, looks like the covers go on his arms. There were plenty, so some may go on the legs as well. Don't know if I'll bother with any of them, though...

If this was your favourite 3p Toy of the year, go vote for it here.

Third Party Year in Review 2019

I don't usually do this, but there's been a heavy push in the TE-01 thread so its only fair that other figures get the same shout out.
