Cool, I'm planning to do an articulated G1 Optimus Prime too, maybe I can copy some ideas from this post!

I really like what you've done with this; it puts the G1 Prime toy in a different class altogether! As such, I'd like to make a few recommendations that might further refine the idea for you:

    1) The Codpiece: depending upon the paint, try sanding the plastic lightly with 1000 grit sandpaper, or even #0000 grade fine steel wool, Wipe with alcohol and then try painting it. It could just be oil from the plastic that caused the issue.

    2) On the thighs, you could use Bare Metal© brand modeling foil to get the same chrome effect as the rest of the parts. It's a polymer film-based foil that can stretch slightly and goes around corners easily, while maintaining a chrome look. Alternately, you can also try Molotow's Chrome Pen for the hard to reach areas such as nooks and cranny's. Depending upon where you live, the foil should be available at any good hobby shop, while the chrome pen is available through Hobby lobby (they have a 40 percent coupon good for just about anything in the store that is printable from the internet!).

    I hope this helps!

Just asking, but I thought you wanted to give this guy articulated hands, right?

Thank you, I’ve changed the codpiece quite a lot recently so it’s not made from styrene any more. But I did pick up some chrome pens and I’m using them on another project. 85BD2621-58A9-4FB1-BFE7-F7E8110D4ABC.jpeg

Right? A definite improvement; if I ever come across another G1 Prime cab (or even an Ultra Magnus version), I'm strongly considering trying these mods!

This is gorgeous. I love this. So as a total, you've used generations Orion Pax and G1 Ultra Magnus. Who else have you used?

Well I didn’t use parts from Orion, I just need him to check and see if the legs were even and balanced. But I used parts of different figures. For the legs I used the deluxe battle pack Optimus, the waist RID StrongArm arm joints and crotch piece, the shoulder ball joints from the deluxe Optimus again, and the head ball joint is FOC Optimus/Magnus shoulder joint.

Here’s some progress on this guy. I’ve painted all the blue parts the same shade of dark blue. And currently working on the new shoulders EBBF8C73-8C9A-45D5-8971-70D890FDE668.jpeg 88D954C3-8D6C-45EE-820C-51C626EFEE1C.jpeg 5EA5077A-08B6-4E78-BA6E-91529057F953.jpeg AC99CE05-D3A1-40B9-8945-4CD227D6A957.jpeg 58DCFDB6-1DCE-4837-80F4-A353F35DCF7C.jpeg 90C13183-B3A4-40F3-A732-08DDF5C11478.jpeg C6EFE30C-25C6-4139-A5A6-8A79D3C80584.jpeg

Beautiful. I love the subtle fleck in the paint.

Does anyone else kinda want Hasbro to do a line of the G1 figures upgraded to have more articulation while keeping the original styling?
