Hello everyone, I always liked the botdesigns in the 2007 movie and with the introduction of the Studio Series, I started collecting the bots in the Deluxe scale (1:39) We never got the leaders the size we need them so I started on my own (Optimus is 78% complete) on Megatron I Had my work cut out, he is a bit of a mess.. I removed the battery box, electronics bay, the lights, and all the translucent flaps, Also gutted the automorph features from his legs and such. then I fitted the rest together (around 30% less plastic) And reconstructed his head and moved the balljoint to a more natural location on the main body. I filled in the obvious gaps, Made a new innerwing since the old pieces dont fit anymore (-12mm from the body thickness) cut of both hands and replaced them with articulated ones from a leader Brawl. I also beefed up the strut that pushes the outer wings to a 90 degree angle as they should. then it was off to primer, sanding, chrome paint and it was painting robotparts gunmetal, aluminium and titanium gold before weathering, dirtwash and rust. all together he took 2 weeks to figure out, gut, put together and paint. Here are some pictures.
Fantastic as usual. By the way, those guys in robot mode aren't 1:39 scale like they are in alt-mode are they? Man that last group shot is wack.
The bots are close to be 1:39 in scale megatron, Brawl and barricade are but the other two arnt.. blackout would be a great grindor trough so ill allow it
Looks awesome, man Only the eyes are a bit dark. Maybe a light-up gimmick for the light-piping would help there.
I removed the lightpiping and just painted them red.. they show up trough but on a picture it is harder to see.. ill ipdate a facepic soon ;-)
Very nice! I'm wondering why you had to remove the inner panels of the wings? I didn't really understand what the description meant by it
I took out the electronics box completely, with that Megatron became 12 mm thiner. His arms moved back the same amount and with the inner wings installed, you could no longer move his shoulders. Now the new (wing)panels are concave and allow for full Movement of the arms.
Like this better than the Dtudio version Have u thought about putting more hinges on the wings so they fold more in bot mode? Also, are Ss, Blackout and Brawl BM or studio and the old leader?
Thank you, I am amazed at the paint, it is so shiny! I bought it for the trailer I am building for my Project Ultimate(Joke) Optimus, he is one of the two customs I am working on at the moment, On that project there will be 14 cm more trailer length, 4 cm less width and will transform into armoury and the Jetpack the truck 6mm less width and shortened rear to match the Peterbilt better and I will improve the botmode while I am at it. But that is another post ;-) I like this one better as well cause of the calves and feet, these are more acurate. I have, and I have also pondered about adding waist rotation and a better hinge. For the wings, it would have been more hassle cause the way they fold up now, the backpack would have been huge. the waist would have been an issue with the transformation so I left it like this. These are 2007 leader class Brawl and the WJ oversized SS Blackout (hide shadow) both custom painted by me as is the BMB OS Starscream
I was never a fan of that Megs but this is s a definite improvement, he looks really good!! The only thing that stands out are the wings, I would've preferred to have them fold back. But if of not, I think painting then the same as the rest of Megs, would make them not standout as much. But other than that, really good job!! On a side note, that Screamer looks awesome as well!!
I do agree with you on the wings, but the only way to have them not look that invasiev is to make them a removable piece and that would be partsforming. unfortunatly this is how he will remain for now, I might revisit it in the future if ever I find a way to make them colapse more than this but it will be a challenge and I have some other customs begging me to get finished. (I prefer to put them aside and look into them once inspiration strikes, that way I don't rush them and guarantee they will be as perfect as can be) And yeah, I have a love hate relationship with that Starscream, I love his botmode and the scale he has there but hate the kibbeled jetform and how tiny he is as a jet.. I am still hoping we get a MPM Starscream that improves the figure with just a bigger jetmode, that is all he needs to hide all that kibble, if not, I have some plans to build one myself... someday
