TLJ fucked everything up because of how it goes so far out of its way to be 'unpredictable' - not so much because of any actual story purposes to killing off basically anybody that the fanbase gave two shits about, but because Johnson seemed hellbent on making sure that none of the theories people posted on where the ST was going would be correct.

 

But that’s really not the definition of redemption or forgiveness if you believe in those sorts of things. If redemption demands your death then it isn’t that.

the only force ghosts in the movie are Luke, Leia and maybe Yoda. All the others only appear as voices when merging with Rey. The Emperor also apparently has all sith ghosts in him too but you can only hear them in voice. Can't have too many ghosts without scaring China. Which makes me think Luke and Leia's ghosts will not be transparent or glowing. Just kinda bluish.

Oh I know but the Chinese aren’t going. I have no idea why they would show up for the final installment. Dropping some fundamental aspects of the franchise might be understandable for money and buts in seats but dropping it for 2% of nothing is stupid.

 

Why doesn't the Chinese market like the Star Wars movies? I'm lost. I know they love the Marvel movies.

 

No nostalgic hook. Star Wars wasn't a thing in China until the last 5 years or so. Coming in cold, it's hard to get invested. Part 7 of a space-wizard opera?

 

Isn’t it a little culturally different too? SW has a pretty strong bend toward western concepts of individualism and authority. I know next to nothing about China but if the Wandering Earth is in line with their cultural value system I am not surprised SW isn’t resonating.

 

Marvel movies are incredible spectacles; absent of an emotional connection to the brand Disney Star Wars is generic sci-fi without any meaningful value. Nothing about these movies is interesting on their own merits without an emotional connection to the previous movies.

 

I do recall one of the reasons why China isn't crazy about Star Wars is that a lot of them feel like the story and stuff is generic and not too interesting. Whatever the reason is I think Disney shouldn't try so hard to win China's favor with SW and they should instead focus that effort into the stuff China is indeed crazy about such as Marvel.

 

He also recently lost a fight to Chewbacca recently due to his cybernetics being on the fritz.
