Why are Star Wars TF's so poorly made?

Just wondering if anyone has any info on them. They are such a cool idea, but so poorly executed. Not only are the designs much worse than your basic TF, but they are very prone to breakage. I have to believe that someone other than the TF designers are making these. And, even if the Star Wars team is designing these, why is the plastic so fragile?

As far as design goes, that'd be because...well the Star Wars team are the ones doing it not the TF team.

No idea about the plastic though.

Are they fragile? I only have a few but they are just fine.

As for the designs, I can only imagine the difficulty to make a robot mode from a vehicle which was designed with no regard for such an idea.

it's a combination of being fragile and being loose. i have a couple where the plastic just twisted in half during the first transforming, but all of them fall apart easily and do not hold poses, kind of like they're ko's.

the death star was a step up in quality, but i got the latest wave with the at-at and they aren't any better than the previous deluxes. i think the death star was just better because of its size they could make it sturdier.

The sucky 'bot modes are IMO because they chose to make the vehicle modes as realistic as possible, with the idea "change a SW vehicle into a TF", and not the other way around. They should have compromised more between the modes. If they'd done that, we'd probably end up with a kick-ass toyline. Now it's mostly crap...

Now that you mention it, Boba Fett is all sorts of floppy. We (kids and I) have given up on his mecha mode completely so he's always in vehicle mode.

Shame to hear about the latest wave, I intend to buy Turbo Tank at least :(

although the latest wave is not much better, the alt modes are still good, which is the only reason i buy them- i collect tf's and these display well in alt mode

ha! i fell for those too... but i don't fault them too much since i don't think hasbro owned them. at least with sw tf's they could have made them well since we know tf designers know what they're doing and they are all under the hasbro roof.

My biggest beef with these were the price, the deluxes are 19.99 up here, I didn't think they were worth the extra price for crappier toys than regular transformers.

if they were 14.99 I would have bought the majority of them without hesitation. I still would like to buy all the molds (no repaints) but I'm gonna wait and get them used at a lower price

Yeah, me too! I didn't think it would last this long. I thought these would kill the line for sure:

    1. repainting the Episode III Jedi Starfighter over & over & over again
    2. huge amount of time between waves
    3. lack of different size classes
    4. only 3 per new wave (including repaints)
    5. $14.99 for a deluxe

As for quality, I haven't had any problems except for the Shuttle Tydirium. That thing is a piece of crap!

Weird. Mine have all been sturdy and well-made. I quite like the designs, too, although I would have preferred generic characters instead of the pilots... that said, I've got no major beef with them.

i only buy the ones i really like - darth maul, milf...alcon, DS, gunship, turbotankturbotank, only one i regretted buying was xwing luke, which is crap.
