or accept that there are design limitations at that size within hasbros budget and safety requirements and move on. dont like it? thats fine, but that also doesnt mean its lazy

Eh, I don't really mind the back of the car coming off. The flip out peg for connecting it to the robot could definitely be used as some kind of small shield. I'm really happy with the size and variety of ways to use the weapons. He's gonna be a lovely addition to the collection come March!

I hear a lot of people complaining about the grey hands on the Optimus, but either way, I don't care. I think that it's a great Optimus. Maybe even one of the best I've seen.

It partsforms and still remains with hell of a backpack. Nah, I won't call it anything but L.A.Z.Y. :duel

except the backpack doesnt have to be used as a backpack. it could be used as a shield. weapons integrated into alt modes used to be a thing in transformers, its really not lazy, you just have unreasonable expectations

On a lighter note, the car mode is stunning and he doesn't have faux parts, which I also appreciate :thumb  Eagerly waiting for the 2nd wave of Earthrise.

I wish the hood folded differently on CJ so the Autobot insignia would be visible through the clear glass on the chest. Is it on a friction joint? I'd turn it around if so. I do the same thing on TR Galvatron to make the black piece stick up from the backpack like his 'trigger' ala the G1 toy silhouette instead of flat against the cockpit. In both cases its just adding a lil more partsforming to an already-partsformer to fine tune the look.

Yeah... NO. This is a $20 deluxe that's small for the price point. That means it should have a higher parts count than other, bigger, toys being sold at the same price point.

Making a regular-ass car a partsformer -- and not even a subtle, "optional" kind of way, but a big part that, if missing, completely messes up the altmode -- is lazy, cop-out engineering. It would have been at the old Combiner Wars price point, but it's definitely that at this new higher price point.

Frankly, I don't care that Cliff's got partsforming going on, but I do wonder if it's part of the Earthrise gimmick. Hoists tow truck part is also a part, as is Grapples claw, I wonder if they have similar adapters and there's a swap and play aspect there that hasn't been touched upon.

TBH, I just want a good neo-G1 Cliffjumper and given my FE Cliffjumper is disintegrating on me, this looks even better.

keep telling yourself that buddy, but how exactly does it "completely mess up the altmode"?

you can criticize things while still appreciating something. This sentiment that there should be no negative statements in this thread is ridiculous. Most people understand that an appreciation thread is more of a general discussion thread for that line and not a thread for blind love.

There is nothing unreasonable about expecting a part to stay attached. What an odd thing to suggest

no but the unreasonableness it that it absolutely 100% must stay attached otherwise the figure is a pile of garbage not worth buying. hasbro isnt a 3p, they arent going to charge $50 for what amounts to a over engineered legends figure, so design compromises have to be made. if cliffjumper was larger then its likely that part could have stayed attached, but the other guy is the one that called it lazy and the other guy is the one that absolutely wont accept design compromises, id call that unreasonable

That back piece is really anomalous. It's not pissing me off or anything but it bears mentioning. It's certainly not a 'non-factor' or 'no big deal' but also not 'the worst design choice ever made'

The difference is that in real life the tow truck part on Hoist and the claw on Grapple are parts that can be removed from the vehicle (and also that both vehicles would look complete with those parts unclipped). What compact car lets you take off the entire rear bumper area?

Don't get me wrong, I'll still get this, I still think it looks great in both modes (if it were colored properly it would look amazing) but it's disappointing to see that they borrowed elements of MP Bumblebee (v1) and somehow managed to not improve the engineering.

"A big part that, IF MISSING, completely messes up the altmode." Words mean things, buddy.

Go ahead and rewatch that video, and freeze frame on the part where the reviewer pulls that piece off. That's what the vehicle would look like without it. That looks like shit.

And that's not even an "adult collector" complaint... my nephew and my kids love transformers, but one thing they always do is lose loose parts. Any part that is designed to detach is likely to be lost by a kid. So my complaint is arguably more of an issue for the toys' target audience. Sure, partsforming is annoying to us, but we're very unlikely to flat-out lose the part, especially since it integrates in both modes... kids, on the other hand, are gonna have incomplete cars within a matter of weeks once this thing comes out.

Now an example of a figure that uses partsforming to complete the altmode in a way that doesn't suck if you lose the part is Scout class Breacher, which folks were praising earlier in the thread. My kids lost the double barrel gun that completes Breacher's turret, and there is a small gap as a result, but the vehicle still looks complete even without it. Cliffjumper would look like crap without that part.

Might've been deliberate, to appease people who complain about huge backpacks by giving the option to take it off.

maybe im in the minority then because in my 27 or so years of collecting ive only ever lost 1 piece of a transformer figure and it was a non essential piece. hell, as i said already, beast wars and rid01 had this sort of parts forming as well, on nearly every single figure in the line. it is a design compromise in this case due to the size of the figure. dont like it? dont buy it
