a used f ing computer yeah so i went out and bought a dual xeon x5660 (12 core/24 thread) 48 gb ram hp z600 to replace my hpz400 running a w3690 (6 core/12 thread) with 18gb ram. always wanted to oc the w3690 but could never find a cheap x58 mobo, namebrand that is. ive software oc it to 39 but it wasnt worth it. anywho i ordered a matching pair of x5680s to replace the 5660s. chip vs cip its a lil less powerful than my w3690.... i should have gotten the x5690s which were basically equal to my w3690. but i was cheap and wanted to save 73 aud now with quicker shipping.. im sure ill eventually make that upgrade after i do something with my rig. had to order a pci 3.0, thought about a sound card but i use a usb one for me mic and head phone. it actually has dual output. meh. ordered a two 6 pin to one 8 pin. had been using a 6 pin to 8 pin to run a rx 570 8 gb.. it works.. z600 will also be a psu upgrade from 475 to 600+ so ill have 12 cores and 24 threads and 48 gb ram to play emulated super mario 3 now hahahaha been sitting on a new ssd and 2tb drive so ill add those and my old 1 tb. guess its win 10 time and dx12 too. recently upgraded my sons hpz200 with ssd, ram and some bogus gt 710 2gb gddr5 gpu... he plays minecraft and lego.. it works..thing runs like new.... i guess ill either part out my rig or give it to the boy. yes, im a hp z fan boi.. i was going to upgrade to a hpz440 1650v3 32gb ddr4 but nah, that made tooo much sense.. i wanted a rig that use to cost 10-15k..... right big pharma buy.. my xmas present to meself i guess.. old tech thats still relevant today. more so if i had just bought those damn 5690s..
Managed to sneak in my third NaNoWriMo win today just over the 50K mark, this year was especially harder than usual as I just couldn't get the creativity flowing (even though this was the first time I wasn't writing a new story, but the fourth revision of a novel constantly revised over the past 5 years and it's not done either), so I snagged the awesome steampunk themed winner shirt - as well as the 'normal' NaNoWriMo shirt with the steampunk/time travel theme for this year as for some reason I didn't get the winner shirt last year (it looked bland I think was the reason) and they don't have my size in that anymore. Cost about $50 because apparently two shirts by mail is now $12+ in shipping for some reason but given this covers two years for winning Nano, I'll bite the bullet. Thankfully I'm employed and have a decent nest egg to take the financial hits this holiday season, it's going to be an expensive one...and I'm not even buying that many toys this year either!
