I had the same feeling which I couldn't quite put my finger on
Apart from a few minor nitpicks I believe he's pretty spot on re toon accuracy
I think my problem stems from his size, not that he is too big but that his size negatively affects the new toon aesthetic of having large areas of plane plastic, it feels like due to his size I need some detail to fill in the gaps.
However the blandness works well on smaller figures

I would go Pheonix X because it is all painted. If VF1S is all painted, then that would take precedence for me, as I prefer jetfire. Painted is better cause then it won’t yellow with time.

Yeah... I had the X version and it just wasn't right. So I moved him on. The hero proportions and limited articulation weren't for me. The alt mode, size and paint of the X version were outstanding though.

I just bought a used FT-10 Phoenix and while I enjoyed the figure, I find the feet a little troublesome. It tends to lean forward and only stop because the front ankle skirt would rest on the die-cast feet. Is there no way for it to stand more securely?

Phoenix is by far probably my favorite 3rd party fig. I think his size is perfect in line with his representation in the cartoon. He even makes fun of his size in a episode, but like others have said it really depends on the pose you put him in and what characters you stand him with. I like the face sculpt considering he was pretty stoic in the cartoon as well.

To me the Siege warts, space wrinkles, size, and pin head derpfire face of the siege Jetfire is what makes that figure not a good stand in at all. I give props to Has for actually making a correct character model. I picked him up on sale for $50 and is in my oldest's Xmas pile. Once he opens it up and a couple days pass. I'll have to do a full side by side comparison.

Hmm, I think I'll rearrange my collection a bit, see if I can find Phoenix a better spot. I'd put him in alt mode, but the bugger is just too big to find room for!

Still, despite his flaws, I can't bring myself to sell him on. Dunno why.

If anyone is looking I have a MISB FT-10X for sale. Full disclosure - I paid some markup on this one, I'm only looking to get back what it cost me. PM for more info if you're interested.

Since it's sealed and I am not going to open it, I hope anyone would realize I can make zero guarantees about defects or what not, but as it's been said numerous times Fans Toys is really good with customer service on issues so that's about as good as guarantee as you can get these days.

You could try Amazon Japan. @OCProwl seems to know the best deals.

So I guess I should've asked here but I've never seen FT Phoenix in person yet (Yes it's sad lol) but I recently saw a pic of him next to RoadKing and he's huge! Just to get a general idea of his size does anyone have the Old scale Combiners like Hercules,Rex,FP Menasor etc and can take a pic of Phoenix side by side next to any of those Combiners? Thanks in advance.

This is with UW Devy, and the Sunbow chart comparison. Note that legs are bent on both, so the comparison is pretty much spot on

Just got a FT-10X Phoenix No: 0355 and it is glorious.
Re the regular F-10 it wasn't the variation in reds that bugged me most but the flat white plastic just like on MP-22 Ultra Magnus and MP-24 Star Saber.
Arguably the regular FT-10 is more "Toon" accurate re colour but it just seemed kind of unfinished to me.
    FT-10X seems more polished.
But in my opinion you really can't go wrong with either as FT-10 is (a few nit picks aside) practically the definitive MP Jetfire/Skyfire.
