So this was my first time dying a figure and after seeing other dye jobs on Siege Ratchet I got inspired to do one myself. Well of since I was entering new territory I wasn't going to sacrifice my Ratchet on my first attempt at dying so a test subject was required. Enter a spare Firedrive since the parts are a similar color as Ratchet's. So I used Rit dye cherry red and thought if this works I'll have a nice custom Pinpointer and if not oh well. I clearly didn't use enough dye so he came out kinda fuchsia instead but I like it and lesson learned. And some before and after shots
Thanks like I said I was trying to get cherry red but ended up more pink than red. Hey does anyone know if I can dye a figure that's already been dyed? Asking in case this happens again when I do Ratchet
My daughter thinks your Firedrive looks just perfect, and my older son is already sorting out which bots he wants which colors and now I have to start googling then try my hand at plastic parts dyeing. Skills, skills, skills.. my resume is building. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, but if you're going to try dying your figures then you should check out what happened to my Ratchet Minor/Repaint: - Siege Ratchet, a cautionary tale in dying. Turns out I actually used too much dye when I made Testshot, only I found that out after I dyed Ratchet. Long story short start out with a very small amount of dye because you can only go darker and not lighter.
Have you tried doing too light of a job then dye again? IF that works seems like the best route to be safe.. Thanks for the heads up
No I didn't. Well kinda, Testshot was my "lighter" run so I just doubled what I originally used for when I did Ratchet. But yes from what I've been told using less dye and repeating till desired color is the best way to go.
Yes in a pot sorry. Just use a small pot and only fill it up with enough water to fully submerge the parts. Bring it to a low boil like just when the water starts to do those tiny bubbles, then add your dye and parts and drop the temp to the lowest setting on your stove and let it soak for about 20 minutes then take it off the heat and sit for another 40 minutes. Just remember to stir occasionally.
