Yes they are angles, not lines. But this Mirage, which looks great, has neither angles nor lines. I would prefer 2 angels on the face like what the lines represented in the cartoon.

The lines are pretty much always there in the shape of the face of most characters, it’s just more or less defined on some.

Everyone’s talking about the lines on his face which is all well and good. But I also think the shape of the “helmet” is off. That could stand to be fixed a bit too.

I recall there was a lot of criticism when Tracks was first revealed because people didn't like the engraved face lines compared to the angled approach like on Prowl, Ironhide etc. But it seems the engraved lines is a bit more accepted now? I think it definitely suits MP45 more. I'd love to see Takara offer a new face sculpt for Tracks if they did a + release, not so much because of the engraved lines but overall there's room for improvement.

Tracks should not get a + release. Rather a new mold.

I don't feel optimistic it would happen, but I wouldn't say no to that at all.

I love my Sphinx, so no idea if I'll even consider picking this up. I will be watching this very closely to see color pictures. It would help to actually see both in hand and compare. Sometimes you notice stuff you wouldn't in a picture.

Still, very happy to see TE do more. I love their Optimus. I'd love to see these guys do a Perceptor, Ratchet/Ironhide, and a Wheeljack.

    MP45 looks like Johnny Vegas.
    12-MP-45-Bumblebee-Ver-2.jpg Jvegas.jpg

I've just needed to point that out for a while.

Regarding this figure, I think TE have nailed the 'bot mode (other members nitpicks aside). It's definitely an upgrade in that regard from Sphinx.

However, the 'alt mode is a let down. Going the chibi/'toon/G1 toy route for that rather than realism is a bit of a deal breaker. Even though I display in 'bot mode, I have to know the 'alt mode is as realistic as possible... it's why I've gone for/stuck with less popular versions of characters before, ie Huffer, Astrotrain, Warpath, Zeta Aerialbot limbs, etc. It's a double whammy for this character, as I also collect models of 70's F1 cars, so I'm even more fussy when it comes to those alt. modes.

This may have to be another figure I wait to see finished pictures of and reviews upon release, and if I miss out, c'est la vie.

They could also change the hood flames and the two autobot symbols to be more toon. Maybe shorten those absurdly big wings and give swappable faces.

    But back to Mirage,

In terms of the vehicle mode on this, and the toon/real world debate: can 3rd parties get away with fully accurate vehicles? I'm guessing yes as they're unlicensed transformers why would they care about being licensed vehicles.

Which brings up the side note, I often read that Mirage's vehicle is a licencing problem for an official MP, but why? I know the Porsche story regarding Jazz, CJ etc. But what's the problem with Mirage? Does Ligier even exist any more?

From what I understood, the problem is exactly the fact that it seems difficult to track who is the actual owner of the rights to license the car.

Like the difference of opinion is no problem. I think it leads to convos sonits good. I feel like the vibe around here is kinda like "of man look at this amazing figure! But the real important thing here is that I don't like this part of it, my opinion is super important about it, and it's the only thing I want to talk about. I'm not even talking about anyone specifically. It's just angeneral vibe. Who knows maybe I've done it. But idk. Not feeling great at the moment. Whatevs I guess.

That's a good tip, although I don't have photoshop, so I don't know if that's possible. I have some cheap version by some other people. Sometimes it's like editing photos on hard mode lol.

Oof. What is it: gimp? I tried gimp once and it was just like you say: hard mode. I would expect that any software that lets you do curves, though, would also allow you do change the blend mode but I wouldn't know without trying.

    I have paintshop pro...
I think they should release two faces, one with engraved lines, one without then everyone wins.

I actually think the same thing. I don't know where you might be coming from, but here it is for me. While the cartoon definitely showed the helmet shape different ways, I think the best way would be if it didn't flare out as much towards the bottom and came inward a bit more. Maybe 1/2 or 2/3 of the way down, it could start angling in.

Maybe a little more like this one:

Or even if it didn't come inward, if it went a bit more vertical on the sides--also about 1/2 way down or so.

It's admittedly less about accuracy, again, since they didn't always draw him that way. It's more that I personally think that style looks best for Mirage.

Neither that or the non-panel lines are going to be a deal breaker for me. Though he does look like he's going to be taller than the other MP figures, and I'm not too sure if that's going to bug me or not. But just as an overall design, I'm really liking this guy. Can't wait for color images.

You know what would be pretty awesome??
If TE did a repaint on their Mirage, so I can slap a decepticon logo on it, and have Crasher (Gobots now in Transformers) into my collection of Decepticons.
